So sin has no bearing on how God deals with America? How far we have come from the days of our founders...

George Washington said, "Of all the dispositions and habits, which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indespensible supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens."

Religion and Morality, hmm isn't that something this country abhors? Living together is common. Single parent families are the rage on TV, and isn't the scriptural two parent family mocked by hollywood? I know the answer isn't relirgion, but Jesus Christ, but this country is against any "religion" that worships the God that created this world. Any other religion is ok especially Islam. If any of you really want the truth study the Muslim religion.

We owe no apology to anyone for speaking out against SIN. Falwell was wrong for apologizing, he should have gone further and included the Baptists who are denying Christ by living fir themselves and the World instead of Christ. It is the cold dead professors of Christ who cry out against seperation who are mostly to blame for God lifting Hois protecting hand.

Come on people wake up all that happens god allows or disallows. We have been a free nation only because God was exalted and His people were free to carry out His Great Commission. Just as He allowed Israel to go into captivity when they turned from God, so will he allow this country to be destroyed.
Romans 13:1b For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Why do people think God winks at sin? Salvation isn't liberty to sin, it is liberty from sin. If you still desire your old filthy sin, and don't loathe yourself when you do sin you better examine yourself.

2Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove that your own selves. Know ye not your selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Let's quit playing silly game and get serious about living for God and not our own desires.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Whenever there is a shall in the Bible it means it is sure.

Well, enough rambling for now. It is a sure thing that there will be some or you who will tear into this post rabidly picking aprt whatever you can

    Well, have at it!

    Ernie

Falwell's statement as I understand it, is that the attack is the fault of abortionists, pornographers, homosexuals, etc. If this is true, why did the planes not crash into those people? They are the ones who are sinning. I think the problem with the concept Falwell is communicating is that he is equating America with OT Israel. God told Israel that he would punish them as a nation if they disobeyed him and God kept that promise. America is not God's nation. There is simply no theological basis for saying God is judging America. God will judge all gentile nations in the future and destroy them when Jesus comes to set up is kingdom. Until then, events like the attacks of 9/11 are allowed by God for purposes for which God has not given a specific explanation. We can only say that God gives a general promise that in all things, even evil things that occur, God is working for the good of those who are the called in Christ Jesus. If we are patient and seek God's wisdom, we may see ways is which God is using this event to bring people to himself. I think this effect of the event is evident already.

If that is all Falwell did then I would say GO JERRY but fact is he is faulting a group of people who are in sin yet leaving himself and the rest of us christians out of the picture where our sin is concerned.

Jerry was out of line. He was simply throwing stones and attempting to pull out the specks in peoples eyes when he's blind by his own logs. Call sin sin....don't push blame on others and not be willing to humble yourself. God is looking for humility not pointing fingers....I am just as wrong, I need to sharpen my walk just as much as Jerry does or any of you do.

Sue, don't be so critical of Jerry Falwell. First of all, he was commenting on a Christian network, for a Christian audience. He was nearly trying to point out some of the problems with this nation, and the reason for the moral decay. Now you are right in assuming, together with several other posters on this forum (including myself) that he should not have stopped there. He should have gone down the line, and yes he should have included us as well for the sin of ommission. But to apologize for what he said, and the way he apologized is the theme of this thread. OK? Here. I want someone to beat up on me awhile. I think Jerry Falwell is a milque-toast wimp for his apology. Nobody has the intestinal fortitude to speak out about sin anymore. It IS the sin of our nation that God has brought judgement to our country. And if this country doesn't get this message pronto, more of this will come real soon. So what do we do, hide like a bunch of wimps and say nothing because we can't take the criticism or proclaim to this country it is time to repent or else?

Some say it wasn't the judgement of God...ok I'll go along with that. judgement will come later.

God does have his protective hand on America, however, and will withdraw it just as he allowed Israel to go int captivity.

I agree with the statements made on this thought, but I feel there is a side we have not looked at.

Yes the Bible has accounts of God bringing judgment on the wicked, but God's word also has accounts where his children were judged as well.

The books of Amos and Hosea are full of God offering chance after chance, then bringing judgement on the nation that refused to repent.

Could this also be seen as a judgment on us, the children of God, the church. For placing traditions above the Word, men above God, being more about politics and less about the people. The list goes on and on.

Before I look at you or someone else and say God is trying to say something to you, I need to pray and ask, Lord, what are you saying to me?

The Bible tells us how we can be healed...

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

The lost are not Gods people, we are. Perhaps we are not healed because we wont pray, seek, and turn.
As I said I agree with the thoughts that have been expressed, but I feel the church needs to take a long look at the mirror before we decide who God is trying to teach a lesson to.

    My two cents worth

AMEN! Chuck, this is exactly where the problem lies: The church that claims to represent Christ but fails to hold Him up, instead bows to the whims of the worldly in the pew!
