I’ve seen this thread several times, and the other website for this “project” given in this thread. I felt the very same way as Ransom, and apparently Paul, when I read it. Combine this thread with the one about hiding tracts in toilet paper rolls, and I shake my head in disbelief. Combine the two concepts and we could stamp the same things on toilet paper. Is the money stamping or toilet paper witnessing evil? Don’t think so but both are pretty tacky to say the least.
Uncle Alagator questioned if Jesus would react as that guy Paul did? Probably not with the same humorous sarcasm BUT Jesus told stories with a NASTY BITE to the religious leaders of His day (they were not laughing when He was done). Since they would not listen to reason, He led them into a story that jacked their jaws with its conclusion. Turning his question around, I try to imagine Jesus and the disciples being so giddy about stamping “Discover Jesus, etc” on Roman currency. Jesus and those others gave their lives to let that gospel message (need and answer) roll off their tongues and pens.
If your dollar bill makes it out to where I am a missionary, please tell me what good it will do? Just about everyone in the place I minister calls themselves a Christian. Why? Because they go to church services, pretend to keep the commandments, have been baptized, and have given up drinking and smoking (in public). All of these would agree that Jesus is the answer. All would say they have discovered Jesus. You’d probably even get some of them to join in and stamp money with the same remarks. Problem is they don’t have a clue what the questions are? The answer means nothing until the problem cannot be completed with nothing but the right answer. It’s man’s problem that is most hard to get across AND IS NECESSARY before the answer will be of any eternal use.
Is this project evil? Of course not. Does it seem really tacky from this missionary’s perspective? Yes. Case in point. On the other website one person talks about the possibility of getting in trouble for stamping US currency. They said something to the effect of, “I’m willing to suffer for Jesus and get in trouble for doing this.” Too bad they don’t have that same zeal to personally take the complete gospel to perishing sinners.
