i dont see why you people have these supposedly "purely curious but fun" debates...

when in reality it gets people worked up and frustrated on what facts are right and which ones aren't...

we all know it doesn't matter when Jesus was born - nobody knows when or why December 25th was even put out there as Jesus' birth (wikipedia source)

above all - scripture doesn't say. so i just wanted to say this whole thread is a waste of bandwith IMHO. :p

i won't be discussing this (not like anybody cares at this point. lol) - cause IMHO there are people who don't know the Savior.

and Today is the Day of Salvation. no?

    God bless!

Jim's research points to April 16. I saw something on the History Channel that concluded the birth of Jesus was on April 17, 6 BC. I am in no position to accept or quarrel with anyone's research, but that April 17 date caught my eye, because my son was born on April 17, 1964. That is also the date Ford Motor Co introduced the Mustang, and so one year I gave him a model Ford Mustang for his birthday! (He would have preferred a driveable one).

Just as a matter of curiosity here in Maryland ... as our beloved administrator pointed out, if you count back nine months from Dec. 25, then March 25 becomes the day of conception, celebrated as Annunciation Day in the Catholic liturgical calendar. Since the first settlers -- Catholic refugees -- from England landed in our state on March 25, 1634, they named the place "Mary's Land", thus neatly affirming their faith in the Virgin and at the same time flattering Charles II's queen, Henrietta Maria. I guess it ought to bother this Baptist that I live in a state whose name is sort of out of character with our position on things religious!

And may God bless you also, sibling
Gekko. I get more e-mail requests for salvation discussions
the more contraversial the on-line discussion.
    This is my ministry.
(And anybody who followed the whole converstaion
knows I really don't care when Jesus was Born.
I'm not even too hip about the Birth of Jesus.
I am totally thrilled that Jesus arose from the Dead
and that His Resurrecition protends my Resurrection. :jesus:

    Agree
Evidently not the same as you, else we would agree. Don't believe you or I will be the one to solve this long standing problem. Excepts from the Christian Jew Foundation quoted below:

"The earliest and most important of all the Jewish chronological works extant is the Seder Olam, which, according to talmudic tradition, was compiled by Yose b. Halafta in the second century C.E. The author, whose date is unknown, was possibly the first to use the rabbinic "Era of the Creation." His chronology extends from the Creation to the period of Bar Kokhba, i.e., to the days of the Roman emperor Hadrian; but the period from Nehemiah to Bar Kokhba (i.e., from Artaxerxes to Hadrian) is compressed into one single chapter. The Persian phase shrinks to only 54 years (the variant reckoning of 250 years is corrupt, see Seder Olam).

However, even making an adjustment of 54 years will not provide a realistic benchmark for the dating of prophetic events. There have been many adjustments in the Jewish calendar over the years, including the insertion of an intercalary month every few years to make sure the feasts always take place at the same time every year (imagine celebrating Hanukkah in the summertime, or Passover in the Fall!)."

The exact day doesn't seem to be the desire of God for us to know. We of earnest effort understand He was born in "tishri". It helps to know which of the "four" Jewish Calendars to use.

True in some respects, and understand your view to be that of many believers. But we are to stand against error presented as truth. What looks to be "fun" to some is the desire of some to correct error.

In bygone era's Baptist's knew, as did the Methodist, Presbyterian, and other's, the source that this man-made Holy Day sprang. People used to read their Bible's, and not all of the various writings of man. We need to be "choosy" in selecting input into our mind.

Many that read these pages are looking for "real answers". Praise God for this "Baptist Board" and all those involved giving opportunity to a good number with "biblical knowledge" to further enlighten those that search for more "true knowledge of His Word", exposing "tradition of man". We endeavor to "…. Expound…the way of God more perfectly", Acts 18:26.

He didn't tell us. He didn't ask us to remember His birthday. Is God "Born", and if so when? He says to remember His death with the wine and the bread, as oft as we will. It is how He wishes us to remember Him.
