Reading Luke 11:27-28 last night.

Why don't the Catholics see this? "And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it."

This, to me, is the strongest signal that we have the the RCC is "in the wrong book."

(It was only a matter of time, a long time, before I would figure out how to get my avatar over here. Y'all like it? It's my stylized "widebody" airplane.)

If we hear the Word of God and keep it, we will have God as our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ our Savior. The Lord Jesus, and salvation through faith in His finished work at Calvary is is what the whole Word of God centers around. It does not matter who our parents are, they can not save us (though, certainly, they can lead in the right direction.) It was a great error among the Jews who felt that since "We have Abraham as our father" that this genetic link would be good enough to gain God's favor.
I feel the Lord's teaching here was to not count on any association with anyone here for salvation (including the Lord's mother, humanly speaking), but, in keeping God's word, believe and heed what God's word says about the Lord Jesus and the need to be "born again" through faith in Him.
Speaking of Mary, she did say something and I have not been able to find any wiser words anywhere: you remember John chapter two at the wedding: "Whatsoever He saith unto you do it." That says it all!

I don't know if it's the strongest signal, but certainly it is a signal. Another is the fact that Mary herself said that she had a Saviour. Luke 1.47:

"And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour."

If she was sinless, she would not need a Saviour.

And yes, I like your avatar. :)

I'd say that this is the smoking gun that along with Skypar's point as the spent bullet (No violence intended) that fortifies our faith in Jesus alone and no one else in between.
Thanks

And Skypar and all are welcome to pull up to the table and enjoy a cup of joe and a donut.

And if Mary was perfect, why did she have to be purified...

Luke 2:22
(22)
And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present [him] to the Lord;

A question perhaps better asked of Catholics, not in a forum that's open only to Baptists.

I can send it to a more appropriate forum, if you like.

Sure --- cool. I haven't seen any Catholics around here but when I was reading the passage, it just struck me how Jesus deflected the issue of Mary worship.

Thanks, man! :wavey:

At one time some pilots where I work were going to create a Christian pilot website and when they saw it, they wanted to use it with their logo on it. We were going to give out lapel pins and all. But that one never got off the ground. The guy who already was holding the website was one of these guys with "too many irons in the fire." Knowhatimean?

Matthew 12:

48 But he answered and said unto him that told him,
Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother!

Mary is just one of the billions of creatures created by Creator Jesus Christ.

How can understand all the prayers from 1.3 Billion Catholics all over the world and convey all the prayers from them since she couldn't locate Jesus for 3 days while she was alive?

Many pagan believers create and explode the capacity of the dead people after the death, in their religion.

Luke 2
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. 48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? 50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

hmm - A thread where Skypair and I agree??

Had to happen sooner or later.

In Acts we are told that Stephen was full of grace -- this is the wording the RCC uses to claim that Mary was sinless.

Seems like they have a huge problem.

in Christ,

Bob

however since we have no one from the RCC to defend themselves -- prehaps a papal defense --

The goddess Mary in the RCC as CoRedemptrix -

"With equal truth may it be also affirmed that, by the will of God, Mary is the intermediary through whom is distributed unto us this immense treasure of mercies gathered by God, for mercy and truth were created by Jesus Christ, thus as no man goeth to the Father but by the Son, so no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother....How grateful and magnificent a spectacle to see in the cities, and towns, and villages, on land and sea—wherever the Catholic
faith has penetrated—many hundreds of thousands of pious people uniting their praises and prayers with one voice and heart at every moment of the day, saluting Mary, invoking Mary, hoping everything through Mary." - Pope Leo XIII, Octobri Mense

"
O Virgin most holy, none abounds in the knowledge of God except through thee; none, O Mother of God, obtains salvation except through thee, none receives a gift from the throne of mercy except through thee." - Pope Leo XIII, Adiutricem Populi

"
Mary suffered and, as it were, nearly died with her suffering Son; for the salvation of mankind she renounced her mother's rights and, as far as it depended on her, offered her Son to placate divine justice; so we may well say that she with Christ redeemed mankind." - Pope Benedict XV, Inter Sodalicia

"
Mary's suffering [at Calvary], beside the suffering of Jesus, reached an intensity which can hardly be imagined from a human point of view but which was mysteriously and supernaturally fruitful for the Redemption of the world." - Pope John Paul II, Salvifici Doloris, no. 25

In a 1985 address at the Marian shrine in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Pope John Paul II said:

"Mary goes before us and accompanies us. The silent journey that begins with her Immaculate Conception and passes through the ‘yes’ of Nazareth, which makes her the Mother of God, finds on Calvary a particularly important moment. There also, accepting and assisting at the sacrifice of her son, Mary is the dawn of Redemption....Crucified spiritually with her crucified son

(cf. Gal. 2:20), she contemplated with heroic love the death of her God, she ‘lovingly consented to the immolation of this Victim which she herself had brought forth’ (Lumen Gentium, 58)....In fact, at Calvary she united herself with the sacrifice of her Son that led to the foundation of the Church; her maternal heart shared to the very depths the will of Christ ‘to gather into one all the dispersed children of God’ (Jn. 11:52). Having suffered for the Church, Mary deserved to become the Mother of all the disciples of her Son, the Mother of their unity....In fact, Mary's role as Coredemptrix did not cease with the glorification of her Son" (Inseg VIII/1 (1985) 318-319 [ORE 876:7]).

"[F]or, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." Luke 1:48. For Eliyahu or anyone else who cares to comment, we can all agree Mary is a creature but how are we to regard this verse in our approach to her esteem?

She's blessed...that's it. I'm blessed, too. While I wasn't privy to having the Messiah being raised under my roof, God has blessed me with a wonderful Christian wife, awesome little boy, and soon to be little girl. I don't think when Mary and I are in Heaven someday together, she will be more blessed than I at that point.

Umm..she did a little bit more than have "the Messiah being raised (under) her roof". She is, after all, the only one in history who conceived and gave birth to God Incarnate. Of all the people who had ever been, God the Word chose to take His humanity from her when He became man. You don't think that's pretty special--and a good reason for all subsequent generations to call her uniquely blessed?

I don't think when Mary and I are in Heaven someday together, she will be more blessed than I at that point.
So, suppose you were to see her on Christ's right hand in the kingdom. Would you not then concede that's a position of high honor?
