I'm not saying people didn't leave as soon as they voted...I have no doubt that happened. I am saying that they came on their own accord and the accounts of Pressler and Patterson bussing people in are greatly exaggerated.

Either way, it doesn't matter. Even if they personally carried every messenger to the convention hall it doesn't matter because every church has their allotted messengers and the churches spoke.

Too much is made of this issue...and it seems to grow, much like an urban legend. That is why I said it is an urban legend. Both sides rallied support, and I don't see anything wrong with that. The group with the backing of the bulk of the Convention won.

Those who win write the history. Ethical or not, the fundies won and get to write the history. Just dont try to tell the folks that were there that the fundies did not bus in every man woman and child they could to vote (and then hustled themselves rigt back out of town). Yes they did a great job, but in my opinion how they accomplished the task was less than ethical.

David, may I ask you a couple of questions and I am not trying to entrap you I simply am wondering where the dividing lines REALLY fall (without reading the books put out by either side).

Do you believe that the first eleven chapters of Genesis are literal or allegory?

Not allegory, but more akin to parable. I do not believe in talking snakes and magic fruit, but I do believe that Genesis three is a parable that acurately describes the human condition.

Do you believe that the flood was literal (earthwide, etc.) or allegory?

I believe there was a flood, but I do not take all aspects of the Noah story to be literally true. It is a story of God's perserverance and promise.

Are you a professor, student or involved in a seminary? (I didn't look at your profile)

I am just curious to know what you really believe in relationship to what Pressler says he believes.

Pressler is misguided as are all Fundamentalists. Fundamentalists are by and large eaten up with the leven of the Pharisees, characterised by self righteousness and hostility toward anyone they cannot control.
