Greetings to all,
I have read this forum occasionally over the past few years (I found it when I was searching the internet for comparisons of Bible translations). I registered as 'non-Baptist Christian'. I have been a believer for more than 45 years. I was raised in a liberal United Methodist Church. I was 'confirmed' in that church at age 12, but I had never heard the gospel and could not have even explained to you what the gospel was.
Fortunately, God provided me the opportunity to be exposed to the Gospel of Christ for the first time when I was 14. My best friend at the time had a part-time job working for a Christian boss (my friend was raised in a Hindu household by his Indian parents -- although he was born a US citizen and he was very Western/secular in outlook). His boss was burdened for my friend's soul and was sharing Bible verses and tracts/booklets with him. These same materials were shared with me by my friend and once I grasped the Gospel message I embraced it and began reading the Bible for myself. I have walked (sometimes stumbling and bumbling) in the grace of the Lord since then.
I have attended a number of Baptist churches over my decades as a believer, but I have never attached any denominational name to myself. I describe myself as a Bible believing Christian and my overall doctrinal views align most closely with some of the Baptist churches I have attended. I have also attended independent Bible Churches, independent Baptist Churches, Southern Baptist Churches, one 'Open' Plymouth Brethren Church, one Calvary Chapel, and several different home Bible studies/fellowships.
Following the demise of our most recent home Bible study/fellowship group, I am currently visiting a Southern Baptist Church as my wife and I seek a church home. This particular SBC follows the 2000 version of SBC Baptist Faith & Message as their doctrinal statement. Their lead Pastor/Elder holds to Reformed theology (I consider myself to be neither Calvinist nor Arminian, but in the past I have been accused of being Arminian by Calvinists and vice versa
). I hold to a Dispensational view of Eschatology, particularly in regard to Israel and the Church each having distinct purposes in God's plan.
In joining this site I am simply hoping to continue reading the board, but also having the opportunity to post questions or respond to discussions here.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a participant.
