I don't know what you are reading, but to pay for the chemicals to euthanize someone costs a heck of a lot less than feeding them, keeping them warm, clothing them, and paying for their medical bills for years on end. Is it a criteria? I don't believe Helen insinuated it was. It's the logical benefit to you and me each paycheck.
Maybe in our current justice system, but if the justice system God set forth had been or is implemented, it would be.
    Some countries still do.

the only reason the death penalty 'costs' so much is because of the required appeals. While I understand the importance of making sure the person is truly guilty, there are times when the appeals drag on for fifteen or twenty years. That is what costs.

Is the death penalty a deterrant? Yes, it is. It is a far more effective deterrant, however, when the gap between the crime and the punishment is not fifteen or twenty years or more!

As far as the other OT crimes that carried the death penalty, they were for the theocracy of old Israel and were not intended for mankind as a whole. However the law given to Noah was for all of us. It was stated in universal terms. It is God's command. It does not matter whether or not you like it.

Genesis 2:17. but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die." Seems like God gave the death penalty for us all... the physical death. We certainly will not miss that one.
