The idea that cutting taxes means more money for the state simply makes no sense. Sure did not work in Kansas and now the GOP shows they cannot fix a mistake they made.

Kansas May Furlough 7,000 Workers Due To Revenue Shortfall

Where is Crabby's article on democrat run Detroit, MI, Birmingham, AL, Oakland, CA, St. Louis, MO, Washington D.C. Baltimore, MD........? Billions of dollars wasted on democratic schemes and look what happened. Give me mo money and mo govment is not the answer as evidenced in these democrat run cities.
Here in Alabama where a balanced budget is the law and is staunchly Republican there is a budget crisis. The governor is calling for higher taxes and fees. The legislator is resisting. Threats of cuts are being made. The "it's for the children" argument is being flung around. But, at some point in time the people can only be asked to give so much in taxes. At some point in time the government's tax and spend mentality must be stopped. Public sector unions must be reigned in. Let government learn to live within it's means rather than calls for more and more and more money. Mo and mo money doesn't solve the problem. It only makes things worse as mo and mo people become dependent on the govment tit.

Bad governance happens on both sides of the aisle. For many I have found when discussing government cutbacks, people are all in favor, right up until it cuts a program that benefits them. At some governments are going to have bite the bullet and make some difficult cuts, nibbling on the edge isn't working.
Now if we could only agree what goes at the top of the spending and cutting list...that would really be something.

If they're furloughing 7,000 state employees, it sounds like they're fixing it.
and that is the key phrase!
At the Federal level we could start with obeying the 10th admendment.
Why are we sending tax money to DC, to be decided (by a tax paid) executive to determine how much to send back to a local districte - but thur the State or Commownealth - to be processd by yet another tax-paid exec?utive.
How much of our welfare give-a-way programs could actualy be better adminstered by our churches and other social agy's
I think the Los Angeles Unified School District is also facing a 400B deficit, and they are cutting government services to the bone.
In Kansas, the budget has to be balanced, just like where you live. The tax cuts did work:

but there's still the budget hole. If they're really having all this great job growth, maybe some of those furloughed non-essential state employees could easily find a new place to work.

It is certainly better than when Bush left office. He just about destroyed the economy. If you do not believe me look at the unemployment figures and what the stock market has done under Obama vs. Bush.
It appears a number of GOP governors are destroying their state ... helping the rich, of course, but hurting everyone else.

I'll give you that. Bush had a bad end of his presidency. However, in six, nearly seven years, this president has not been able to pull this economy out of the stink hole it is in and continues to stagnant in.
You and I know that a good statistician can make any body of fecal matter appear to be a wholesome, cool, inviting body of water to spend a day swimming in and suntanning next to! Nevertheless, in the end, it is still a stagnant pool of fecal matter that is painted in a positive light to get people to believe there is a place to enjoy their summer picnic lunch and family outing at! :tear:
