Nope, "so sez" an American. But only about politicians. As an American, the constitution speaks for my country. As a Christian, the Bible does the speaking.

It's part of the separation of church and state -- a belief Baptists have supported for longer than the constitution has existed.

Can you validate that he is a fake Muslim?

I've heard that Mein Kampf is considered important to white supremists, but not even as scripture. How does it relate to this discussion?

This thread isn't about what book Ellison chose to swear in under but this would be a good point to bring up in one of the many threads that have discussed this topic.

Regarding that point, a politician can swear in with any book they please, including the Mein Kampf and that won't bother me. What would bother me is the types of policies they propose, vote for and speak out about. If they swear in on Mein Kampf and propose, vote for and speak about issues that agree with my view, then he is doing his job. If he starts proposing or speaking about issues that are in line with Mein Kampf, he will get voted out.

That is usually how representative republics work. It doesn't matter so much what the politician actually believes. If they can represent the wishes of their constitutents, they are doing their job well. Usually this is done by actually believing in the things their constituents believe in, but this is ultimately not necessary.

That line was not meant to be supportive of anything in Mein Kampf in any way at all.

It was to show that it is the policies a politician supports that matters, not the book they swear on or even their beliefs, until those beliefs affect the policies they support.

It's okay, Gold Dragon, I was just trying to figure how absolutionistic your view was. The thread closing warning scares me.

Islam and Nation of Islam are two different things, I wouldn't consider him "real", given the fact he's so far left on the political spectrum, he's just another American caught up in a black separarist movememt.

It's the number one selling book in Iran, that's all, "president of Iran" quotes it often.

I'm outta this thread, separation of chuch/state RAWKS!!!

The thread closing thing is standard procedure in this forum for threads that go over 3 pages. I believe this policiy is in place because some news threads have had a tendency to get heated in the past. It is possibly to keep threads on the forum current and about news. It shouldn't scare you. :)

Don't worry -- it's standard procedure. If interest exists, a new thread will immediately pick this up.

Thanks for the clarification. The blacks I've met who are Muslim do consider themselves to be so, not as American separatists.

Thanks again for citing his reading material. Wasn't aware of that.
