Kennedy & Gestapo

From NY Times article:

But Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, the chief Democratic architect of the bill, said that many senators had “voted their fears, not their hopes.”

Referring to opponents of the bill, Mr. Kennedy said: “We know what they don’t like. What are they for? What are they going to do with the 12 million who are undocumented here? Send them back to countries around the world? Develop a type of Gestapo here to seek out these people that are in the shadows? What’s their alternative?”

We wouldn't have to call it the Gestapo, but I why does this idea appeal to me? Is it because the gov't should be doing something like this anyhow?

You hear all the time "You can't deport 12 million people"...OK maybe not in one day, but after the border is sealed-why not?

We don't have to deport them. Just go after their employers and stop giving illegal aliens access to taxpayer-funded services. If we do those two things we won't even need a wall. They'll leave and won't come back.

It doesnt bother me that they are here. Just deny any free benefit (with the execption of emergancy life saving medical), in addition, birth in this country would not make you an automatic citizen.

If there are no benefits...

"Without a new immigration law, Mr. Kennedy said, “The situation is going to get worse and worse and worse.”

Kennedy is right.

But he still fails to see that it is his and the Senate's responsibility to come up with a bill the people of America will support.

Senator Kennedy is wrong. We have sufficient laws on the books. They just need to be enforced.

.....and it ain't gonna happen, KenH.
Ask yourself: exactly who benefits from all of these immigrant workers?

Well finally I agree with you in principal. But after we cut off jobs and services, they'll revolt, and that will be a mess.

I don't know about that. There's the matter of private citizens hiring these guys out as painters, movers, handymen, electricians, plumbers, general help.

Taxpayer-funded services, yes, I think.

ANYHOW, back to the original question-what do you think about a law enforcement dept solely focused on hunting illegals of all nationalities?

Which is illegal for them to do. That's why the government needs to enforce the law concerning employers.

Business. That is why my libertarian friend who hosts the local talk radio show says that the recent immigration bill was really more of an amnesty bill for business than it was for illegal aliens.

That's why this will be forced through Congress. You haven't seen the last of this.

Maybe so, but I don't think that it will be prior to January 20, 2009.

GWB supports this nonsense. Who says the next CIC will?

The bill failed, not because of GW, but because of public outcry.
