He refused to withhold employee taxes. He's being charged with (among other things) not paying the taxes of others.

==I do believe in young earth creationism, a six (literal) day creation, a literal global flood, a literal understanding of Genesis chapters 1 thru 11, etc, etc. Don't be so quick to assume that everyone who opposes Hovind believes in evolution. Many Christian scientists have rejected Hovind and, since I believe in the things listed above, must also reject Hovind. People like Hovind, with their fake degrees and shotty evidence, give all Bible believing Christians a bad name. Answers In Genesis, and other Christian groups, have been highly critical of Kent Hovind (and for very good reason). Christians have nothing to fear from solid scientific, historical, theological, textual studies. That is why I will stick with people like Ken Ham, John MacArthur, Dr Gish, Dr Morris, etc, and that is why I avoid people like Hovind.

==According to the Word of God he is required to pay all taxes that the government asks. The Bible does not give conditions upon this (see Rom 13:6-8). 501c3 has nothing to do with Scripture and Scripture is what Hovind, and all of us, will be judged by. Hovind should pay the taxes because the Word of God says he should. Period, end of story.

==I don't know what that means or how it has anything to do with the subject (other than trying to avoid it). Jesus paid His taxes, the disciples paid their taxes, Paul paid his taxes, and the Word of God commands Christians to pay our taxes. Why? Two basic reasons....(1) so that we do not offend them (Matt 17:24-27). (2) because of wrath and conscience sake (Rom 13:5).

Hovind has no Scriptural grounds to stand upon.

==I don't know that Hovind is a brother in Christ. I don't know the man and what I have seen of him I find highly questionable. Maybe he is saved, maybe he is not, I have no clue.

And don't you sit there and claim that I have "succumbed so far into state idolatry". You don't know me, and you clearly know nothing about me. I am talking about what Scripture teaches. I could care less what the government says or what you or Hovind say. The Word of God is very, very clear. We are to pay our taxes, Scripture gives us no "out" on this. If Hovind is refusing to do that he is in sin and he needs to repent.

    Good day to you.

He doesn't have to earn it; he's got it. If necessary, he can sell his theme park.

And if he refuses, then what?

    Rufus...

Let me type this slowly so you can get it.

    Paul said in Romans 13:
    Jesus said in Matthew 22:
Kent Hovind broke the law and rebelled against the authorities. He is guilty of that. Whether you appreciate our tax rate or not (I don't) is immaterial. God tells us to obey the law UNLESS it contradicts His law.

    You said,
Accusing a Christian of idolatry is a serious charge. Unfounded, as well. I mean, we might not be defending him, but remember...he ain't defending himself! Furthermore...why should I defend a brother in Christ when he's clearly doing sinful stuff?

You're way, way too worked up about this. Many here would agree with you that our tax system needs help. I've stated that myself.

But Kent Hovind is guilty of not paying taxes. End of discussion. SHould he go to jail for 200+ years? Like I said, I think there's other punishment that fits. But it doesn't change his guilt.

    Do you pay your taxes?

Hovind, in recnt years, had starting getting into some wacky stuff. He had good material regarding creation...even evolutionists, I think, would admit he could be persuasive and had done his homework.

But he got into some really strange conspiracy theory stuff in the last few years...the moon landing was a hoax, that the government is preparing to use UFO's as a cover for the rapture, our government knew in advance the details about Pearl Harbor and 9-11, and other nuggets:

Kent Hovind was amazingly persuasive. I have seen his presentation (4 days) in person. And I thnk he knew that he was good at what he does. This was many years ago. But therein lies the problem, I think. He knew he was good at it.

Like all of us, he too, is prone to pride. And I think that in the end is what brought him down. I see this as possibly God's way of bringing Kent down so that all he can do is look up to God again rather than at himself.

    Just my thoughts, FWIW.

Very well. Are you a patriot? Would you say the same thing of tax protestors such as Patrick Henry or Samuel Adams? In fact, the entire American revolution was based on this issue. Thus, if you are willing to state that our American founders were wrong to rebel against the British Crown, then I accept your argument. However, if you celebrate the fourth of July and bash Hovind, then I would submit that your positions are inconsistent.

Taking the states position without consideration that the Christian may have an argument and calling the Christian names puts ya'll far closer to the side of the state than a brother.

Our entire monetary system is a fraud. Our entire tax system is a fraud and we are participants in that fraud.

In the 58 counts none are pertainent to Kent not paying his taxes.
    • 12 counts of willful failure to collect
    • 45 counts of structuring transactions to avoid reporting requirements
    • 1 count of instructing and impeding IRS investigations

In summary, they have found him guilty of 12 counts of not paying other peoples taxes and 45 counts of what is essentially a thought crime.

Yep. I have all of my life and only in the last year have I begun to research this issue. I am convinced that when we pay our "income taxes" we are engaging in fraud.

I wasn't aware of that rbell. Looks like there's 4 more things Kent is right about.

First of all, do you really think it was only about taxes? If so, you need a history refresher. Secondly...we're not under the British crown...so I owe no allegiance there.

I noticed one thing in your reply: You completely ignored the mandates of scripture that Hovind is disobeying. Why won't you deal with that? The rest is just window dressing. Please explain why Hovind thinks it is OK to disobey Christ.

If you really feel that way then engage in civil disobedience. But be aware...the scriptural way to do it is to not avoid being caught, but to "take your medicine" and serve your punishment. So go ahead and advertise how immoral it is, and just quit paying. I'm sure you'll have a fine prison ministry. Maybe you can share a room with Kent!

    oooooookay, then...

Watch out for those black helicopters, and be careful around the Illuminati. Don't get too close to the edge of the planet.

Why don't you give me that history refresher. Tell me how the American Revolution wasn't primarily about taxation.

We are certainly not under the British Crown and why aren't we? I am suggesting that a couple hundred years ago a bunch of patriots fought a war against a tyrant primarily over taxation and a tax burden that was far, far less than the burden citizens face today and their tax wasn't even on income. Thus, they were either right and Hovind is right or they were wrong and Hovind is wrong. Do you believe that our founding fathers were right to rebel against a king? Were they not under the same scripture that you keep citing?

No, he was pretty much a ridiculous joke to evolutionists, with his Fred Flintstone model.

Even many creationists thought Hovind was a buffoon. Answers in Genesis thought he was sufficiently embarassing to publish a criticism of him.
