The real credit needs to go to William Tyndale. The KJV revisers relied on his work even if filtered through the Bishop's Bible,Geneva etc. Tyndale made it all possible. How many of us will be around in 2026 (if the Lord tarries) to celebrate the 500th anniversary of W.T.'s wonderful translation?

I love the KJV, and its the best one I have ever read!! But I am KJV preferred, and not KJVO. Why? If it is THE WORD OF GOD, then we need to throw the Greek, Hebrew, and Chaldean(or is it aramaic that Daniel uses?) away. The KJB is a VERSION of the Word of God, and the Word of God was originally written in the aforementioned languages. But, I want a KJV before any other version out there!!

I concur with this assessment. But the KJV IS the best one of them all, if you ask me, and even if you don't ask me.......:tongue3:

Uh, how 'bout 400 years???? That's a testament right there. Look, Brother, I know you don't like it; probably not even in your top 20 list, but the record stands by itself. The Geneva and Tyndale bibles have been around longer, but they do not sell like the KJV. I am not saying that it is the only version, but IMHHO, it's the best going. But again, it's my opinion only. To each their own, I's says!!

Look Brother, my "single criteria" isn't that it's old, but that MILLIONS of people have bought this version for 400 years now. This isn't a debate about which translation is superior, but you are bound and determined to make it just that. No other version out there can approach the #'s this bible has sold for the last 400 years. I will have to try to research this out sometime and see if I can find some #'s and see which version sells the most nowadays. Listen, if you hate the KJB, its your right to do so. I can really care less which version you like, because its your right. But the #'s stand by themselves, and that is all the criteria I need. Millions of people can't be wrong Brother Rippon. I am not telling you its the only version out there, but IMHHO, its the best. Like I stated earlier, its my opinion only.

Here is a webpage that states that the KJB is the most popular in the USA. Now, I don't know if their #'s are skewd or not, but its the best one I can find right now. Hopefully I can find something with some more "meat" on the bone!!

So it is old and widely purchased/used. That makes it the best? I think the Catholics said the same thing about the Vulgate. If that line of thinking didn't work then, why should it work now?
The Word of God abides from forever through forever. God"s Word was not originally penned in King James English.
Man has translated, edited, revised the copies of manuscripts. Whereabouts of the original autographs is not known. The KJV of 1611 was edited/revised several times before the NKJV. Now what?
The Word of God still abides--by His providence--all praise, honor and glory go to Him.
There are two streams of copies which have made it through the Dark Ages and other Satanic attacks. One stream is through Alexandria; the other through Constantinople. The stream from Alexandria is highly corrupted.
Oldest does not equal best.
If a person understands Swahili and hears The Word in Swahili, The Lord can call him/her. That person may be illiterate. Much of the world is not literate. "Faith comes by hearing, hearing the Word of God." "How shall they hear without a preacher?"
Most of us have a religion and a religious book which is conformed to our lifestyle, instead of a lifestyle conformed to true religion, undefiled.

Message: there is a TR stream(Testus Receptus or Received Text) and a Critical text stream. The Critical stream is seriously corrupted. The KJV translators, using the TR, translated at the behest of King James, an Anglican and pedobaptist. The translators were pedobaptists: they would not translate baptizo--immerse--probably because their ritual was to sprinkle infants. They also had trouble with pescha--passover; they used the word Easter, a word with pagan, pagan, pagan origins. Ester was a goddess. See also: Mother of God.
Going into the English, the KJV, including it's revisions is better than the modern translations using the critical text.
God has preserved His Word in spite of man's depraved idolatry.
The Holy Spirit can use the New World Translation--He only bears witness to the Truth.

It's like I have said over and over again, I am not KJVO, only KJVP. I can care less what version anyone else prefers. Its their right to read what they love the best. Its MY OPINION that the KJV is the best, but its MY OPINION only. That is what I have been trying to get across to everyone else.
Rippon and others...........this is a thread strictly to HONOR the KJV and 400 years of it being a wonderful Bible. Can you PLEASE keep your comments about the KJV to yourselves for at least THIS thread? We know you don't care for the KJV, but please don't start demeaning it in a thread started strictly to celebrate it! Thank you.
AMEN!! I don't know why some people have to always jump in and offer the negative. It's almost like they think they have the most "needed to be heard" opinion, and that is not always the case. Most of us who post here are rational and intelligent Christians and don't need others to try to "fix" us.

I have said this before and not hesitant to repeat it. I have used the KJV as my main Bible since I was a child in school; consistently in ministry since 1945. It remains my key Bible.
We used the KJV to learn theology and to battle against the tide of liberalism right into the early 60's.
I really don't care what people say against it. I read and refer to other translations. I have changed many words and dates in the KJV, but none of this negates my feeling about the relative veracity as the word of God.
Some call it an Anglican Bible. I grew up and became a believer in the Church of England (Anglican) but became a baptist out of the KJV.
It is not the text of the KJV, but the theology that comes out of it, and the application of that theology, that counts.
God has blessed the KJV for many, many years, and I have no solid reason to pass it by unto my death.
