I use the Bible God blesses, the NASB[Ransom]

I've been doing scads of reading on all these MVs y'all mention & the discovery I made about yours is that there are a large number of verses, portions of verses & words which are found in the KJBible to be completely missing from the NASV!

I've also read that translations based on the Westcott-Hort or Nestle Greek Texts reveal both subtle & frontal attacks on the deity of our Lord & other basic doctrine.

How can anyone be helped in their understanding of the Word of God when so many questions are raised about what should or should not be a part of the words of the text?

I'll stick with my 'straight-stick' any day! Thanky!

Have you studied to find out why there are differences and where those differences come from? Have you considered the possibility that the KJV contains a large number of verses, portions of verses & words that were not written by the original authors, no matter how orthodox they may be? In other words, to say that there are things missing is a bit simplistic and clouds the real issues.

Have you read the refutation of these charges? Have you studied the MVs to find out if these doctrines really are taken out?? (They aren't, for the record. I have a NASB and an NIV close at hand and every single doctrine is explicit.)

I think you underestimate the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of modern believers. Out of all the conversations I have had with real people (not internetters) about this issue, no one has ever expressed doubt about the ability to know what God says. I think this is an emotional argument that clouds the issues.

BTW, I noticed you never finished our exchange about what John wrote in 5:31 and 8:14 and how the KJV translators took John's one word and made it two.

Why are you trying to cast doubt on the Word of God? That's hardly what I would call appropriate behaviour for someone claiming to be Christian.

Why spend my precious time "researching" all those things you named, when I've already got a "straight-stick"?! **Even my little referral to a book called life, per Cynic, caused 'confusion' when he changed it to mean the Book of Life.

Everything I am, or was, hope to be, should/could be, comes from the pages of what is known as the book called life. Sometimes when I'm "writing" this book, I leave a page or two out, & it becomes a mystery. (Of course, one Book which is no mystery, is a Book which IS Life; my KJBible.)

That's all I needed then, now, or in the future. It is NOT about "emotions" or "illogical thinking"; the KJBible was faithfully used by my ancestors & there was never any confusion: "For God is NOT the author of confusion..."

There are times, in such discussions, when I am
tempted to bring up various historical facts in
order to try to throw doubt on a version. I have
done that in the past, but it was not always
appropriate, depending upon the listeners.

However, there was a pamphlet that came to
me from a KJVO lawyer, which was so poorly
written and researched that it appeared to be a
joke; unfortunately, he was totally serious.

When one on either side of this issue makes
stupid or ludicrous remarks, it is not just that
particular translation they are pulling down; it
is the Bible as a whole, those who love it, and,
most of all, our God.

I think we could all use a little kindness and
tolerance for one another, making our state-
ments about translations without putting ano-

I have had dealings with Mike Paulson, the author of this site, concerning the KJV. He demonstrated himself to be blatantly dishonest intellectually, and for that reason I do not regard him as even slightly credible.

Well, when it comes to lemon pie, I could do it
well with milk if it is icy cold or southern iced
tea, but not coffee! WOOO! Yeow! That

Hey boris99! I do have kinfolk down there & I think they are Southern Baptist; which explains why a lot of the younger ones have departed from their Heritage, the good ol'KJBible.

'Tis a sad thing, too, as this ol'world is in such a crazy-mess & yes, there's a reason for it...I just pray that folks will take the time to figure out why: "footnotes, omissions, brackets"; interesting things, those brackets~

I am sorry you don't still have those babies here;
at least we can know that our Father knows
where they are and that they are being well

In the "old paths" of John the Apostle, he used the same word in both cases. Your web page, in addition to being terribly hard to read, makes a distinction that Scripture does not make. The answer to the "dilemma" is the context of the two passages, not the translation of the word in the KJV. Think of it this way: How would the second century reader of the gospel of John (who would have read in Greek) known the difference and the answer to your problem?? By context, not by translation.

As for being modern, I am simply referring to modern in terms of post-apostolic.

However, I will take you up on that lemon meringue pie and ice cold milk ... or sweet tie. Except at home, it is hard to come by up here in the north. They just don't know their tea very well.

This is my version of southern iced tea. It is not
KJV tea, but NASB tea:
1.5 quarts of water, brought to a boil, then turn
off the heat. Drop in 12 bags of Lipton black
tea and leave it alone for 20 minutes.

Remove and sqeeze your tea bags, then add
1.5 cups sugar to the hot tea. Stir well, until
all the sugar is melted.

Empty a tray of ice into the pan and stir. Pour
the tea into a gallon container and fill it the
rest of the way with cold water (and a little
more ice, if you like).

That's my southern iced tea. Sometimes, it
is nice to stir a few fresh mint leaves into
the cold glass.

I always made it with one cup of sugar, about 8-9 tea bags in a pot of water brought almost to a boil. Then cover it and let it sit for a few hours. Dump in a gallon jug, squeeze the bags, and add water. Now my wife makes it. I don't know how she does it but I still drink it anyway. We don't even keep coke in the house ... Our choices are water and tea (the real kind).

My Bible is very precious to me. I am sorry that all the folks on here have to do is argue over petty issues. I believe I hold God's Word in my hand. I am going to read it and love it. If you don't have God's Word in your hands I say it is time you get a copy and read it. It will change you life.

Ransom, why don't I start with you. Get a copy of the book the Bible and read it. You fight the KJV issue like it was the only issue in the world. If you spent more time reading God's Word than you do on fighting everyone that loves the KJV you could win hundreds to Christ and your life would be changed.

Thanks, I already have one, but thank you anyway for assuming I haven't read it (though I have, of course, and from what I have seen of you I could probably run rings around you if it came to a theology-knowledge quiz).

As long as it's the KJV, right, Sam? What about the NKJV, the NASB, the NIV and the RSV? Are they they Word of God, too?

I'm going to post this, if it get's deleted it gets deleted. The man who originated this thread believes that many of us who use different versions of the Bible HAVE NOT(by his own wording in his last statement) read the KJV, or do not consider it to be the Word of God. This simply is not so and I feel should be addressed. He is a KJVO person, no matter how he tries to deny it. He tries to appease both sides after he get's people riled (I know this from experience), and then tries to play the part of the innocent victim when questioned about his statements. This is not in the least Christian of him, and this whole thread was meant to be divisive.

Rev Sam, do you believe ANY of us have read the KJV? I personally was a KJV supporter until just recently. Why? Because of many in the KJV camp making statements like you have, implying that the KJV is the only correct version of the Word of God?
Many here use other versions of the Bible. Many were saved through the ministering to their hearts by the Holy Spirit through the use ov another version of the Bible. Do you believe the KJV is the only acceptable version and that God doesn't use any other versions? And, when people who don't use the KJV have their Bibles attacked, don't you expect them to stand up and defend the Word of God that they use?

Brother, if someone were to look at your link posted either here or in another thread (I don't really recall which), they would know how you feel about this issue and how you basically feel about them and their Christian lives. Is that a correct assumption?
