WLEX-TV18:null:

When this boxing skit hit YouTube Friday it showed Lexington Assistant Pastor Joseph Pickens dressed in blackface. Much of the feedback was not positive.

"They said, 'What are you doing with blackface?' And I really didn't know what they were talking about to be honest," said pastor Jeff Fugate.

Fugate says he watched Pickens perform in blackface twice this week and didn't have a second thought until he started receiving emails about it.

"I'm not trying to be ignorant, but I guess I am," he said.

Unbelievable is all I can say. To say that he's puzzled is a clear indicator of ignorance. I'll bet he's got a fully white congregation and has never even spoken to a black person at any length.

According to the Lexington Herald, several black people took part in the youth conference where the skit was presented, and Fugate contends no one complained. I find that hard to believe, but whatever ...

Yeah, I know how offended you get when Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, the Wayans Brothers, Tyler Perry, etc, put on "whiteface" to play white characters.

Oh, wait...

I've never had any respect for Jeff Fugate. He holds an "honorary doctorate" degree from Hyles-Anderson College. The church and camp and school are legalistic to the nth degree. In my opinion, he's just a leader of another IFBX cult. Using blackface is only one of many things I find offensive about him and his crowd.

I watched both skit's and thought both were stupid and a waste of time. Is the churches all about entertaining people now ?

Whiteface has been done. I take it you've never seen / heard of the movie White Chicks? Very unfunny movie.

Yes, I know. I even made a reference to White Chicks in my previous post.

I just think the hypocrisy is funny. It's OK when black people put on whiteface, but bad when white people put on blackface?

I have no problem with either.

What I find funny is that you seem to think you know that everyone else finds that funny. Annie asked you how you presumed to know what she thought of that "comedy" and I would ask you on what basis you think the rest of us find it "funny." The Madea character, Murphy's multiple white characters in "Coming to America" and the like -- disgusting. These same black comedians have made a living denigrating white people in a manner that, had white actors said similar things about black people, they would have been booed off the stage or worse.

No, JDF, I don't like black actors playing white characters any more than I like the reverse. Don't make assumptions without knowing squat about those whom you address. If someone has made a comment on here saying they like that type of humor, fine, make assumptions. Don't assume the rest of us join in.

Nor do I. I don't like when ANYONE denigrates anyone else. It's wrong and it's ungodly. Period.

That was a hoot. I'm already trying to think of people I can get to do that at our upcoming lock-in.

That was some of our youth and young men (I think the big guy (my daughter's boyfriend) was the oldest at 20 years old). I think you HAVE to be young to be able to do that! LOL They put large mattresses as a cushion so that they could do all the jumping they had to do. :)
