Interesting observations. As I recall the 68 election Nixon ran against a liberal Humphrey and a far righter Wallace. He did not against two liberals. Also you did not mention the 80 and 84 elections, when a conservative was nominated and the democrats were crushed.
People were sick of Carter Also liberal independent Anderson got about 6 million votes otherwise the election would have been much closer!

My dad just died a month ago at 88, but growing up in Mississippi in the 50s and 60s, his version of the satanic trio was JFK, LBJ, and MLK. I think the middle one was the worst. What I am not understanding in what you say is Kennedy cut taxes, balanced the budget, and had a hefty defense budget. Both Bushes ran up record deficits and did not cut taxes. Remember read my lips. As far as Kennedy being RCC and immoral, as you said we are not electing a pastor

I said nothing about Kennedy other than the democrats stole the election in 1960.

Bush 41 trusted the democrats to cut spending. His mistake; he should have known better. Also there was the first Gulf war in Iraq

As for Bush 43, he was a big government conservative, almost a contradiction in terms. I believe that 9/11 and the war had a much more significant impact on the economy than anyone realized and then there was the insane bailout of Wall Street in late 2008!

The deficits under Reagan were not that low but he had to rebuild the Military that had deteriorated badly after Viet Nam!

Clinton benefited from the post Gulf war boom and the first Republican House in 40 years.

Lately I have been working on my Dads estate. He told me in one of his conversations the only Democrat he ever voted for was Truman against Dewey.

I voted for one democrat, A. Willis Robertson, Va Senator in 1960. He was running unopposed and I was voting absentee ballot having just moved to SC. He was Conservative but I have been burning candles ever since.

I first voted in 52. I did not like Truman at the time but have mellowed in my old age. I admire him for his courage in using the A-bomb against Japan and ending the war. An invasion of Japan would have cost possibly millions of lives. They would have fought until the Emperor said quit! After the second bomb he did!

I hope that if this country were ever invaded they would fight like the Japanese would have. They would at one time but I doubt it now.

Bush 43 cut taxes.

The Bush tax cuts had sunset provisions that made them expire at the end of 2010, since otherwise they would fall under the Byrd Rule. Whether to renew the lowered rates, and how, became the subject of extended political debate, which was resolved during the presidency of Barack Obama by a two-year extension that was part of a larger tax and economic package, the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. In 2012, during the fiscal cliff, the tax cuts were made permanent for single people making less than $400,000 per year and couples making less than $450,000 per year, and eliminated for everyone else, under the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.

Before the tax cuts, the highest marginal income tax rate was 39.6 percent. After the cuts, the highest rate was 35 percent. Once the cuts were eliminated for high income levels (single people making $400,000+ per year and couples making $450,000+ per year), the top income tax rate returned to 39.6 percent.

I never realized how much Johnson and Kennedy disliked each other until they were out of office. Kennedy must have really needed him as VP.

Hmmmm. I'm starting to wonder if we have a sock puppet.

Zaac from Atlanta, Ga disappears, along with his constant barrage of accusations of racism of the BB members.

Now another Atlanta Ga poster comes along and is here a very short time before HE calls everyone a racist.

I believe you have made a brilliant observation! But perhaps Zaac has an identical twin or could it be a clone!

hack-speak or Zaac speak!

I figured it was Zaac a while ago.

I agree that is highly suspicious .... quite possible .... you are probably right!: smilewinkgrin: how goes the war Zaac?

This is the second person I've been accused of being since I came to BB. None of that offends me. It just shows I'm not the only on who feels the way I do. (Deut. 19:15; Matt. 18:16)

I'm trying to take you guys word that this harping on the President isn't racially motivated. It's just hard to believe because I'm noticing a ton of posts aimed at attacking the President but none requesting or suggesting prayer for him. (1 Tim. 2:1-3; Matt. 5:44) In addition, some of the responses about my reply being simple-minded or intellectually vacant is made in ignorance (without ample information) and morally wrong (Matt. 5:22). Such ignorance and denigration is usually the source of racism (1 John 2:11).

You can continue with your "patriotic" discussion, but I'm not this Zaac guy or his identical twin....or a clone lol. Peace to you all.

That says it all OR. Plug your ears. Close your eyes. Jump up and down and throw yourself against the wall.

You're so hooked on participating in the false left vs right paradigm you have turned to third grader tactics to protect yourself from the obvious.

Kennedy needed Texas but I think they may have had to steal it anyhow; Texas, Missouri, and Illinois are three I have heard mentioned.

I agree with you about the 1960 election, perhaps the textbook election of elections. If one looks at the character of Richard Nixon, it is a peculiar mix of good and bad. One of his most gracious moments is when he spared the nation an endless recount and court battles, unlike Gore in 2000. Anyway, I think Nixon is one of the most tragic stories in American political history. Really just off the top of my head, I cannot think of anyone else who was defeated in a Presidential election that came back to win. There may have been one in the 1880s, but not sure. Anyway, he had many achievements during his Presidency, most notably winding down Vietnam, opening relations with China, and nuclear treaties with the Soviet Union.

On the dark side, I will never understand why he was so paranoid of losing the 1972 election, especially with a loser candidate like George McGovern. It was so unnecessary. From the first mention of a cover up, to the taping system, things just spiraled out of control that lead to his downfall. A sad story indeed.

Hey what good is living in the false left vs right paradigm if you don't have a leftie to bash?

At least all the righties here can enjoy that sense of superiority while the globalists that control both parties steal all our wealth and enslave us.

Viva La False Paradigm!

Good to see you Poncho. I debate sort of along the same lines. The creature that really gets me stirred up is a liberal Republican, like Mitch McConnell. They drive me nuts, Rinos pretending to be conservative. Use the Constitution as a standard and see the huge gap. In the light of the Constitution, the two parties are two peas in a pod. The gap gets much higher when you use the Bible as a standard for politicians.

After Republican Congressmen found out that Nixon had been lying a group, lead by Goldwater I believe, insisted that Nixon resign rather than face impeachment and certain conviction. Again Nixon spared the country a legal battle, in this case a disgraceful one.

Can anyone imagine a group of democrat Congressmen visiting Obamma asking him to resign over his repudiation of Constitutional limitations on his power, Furthermore, can you believe the ultimate narcissist Obama resigning?

The people involved in the Watergate breaking were ex CIA people. I have often thought that some in the CIA resented Nixon's outreach to China and may have exacted a little revenge. It is unbelievable that these men would do something as stupid as putting a piece of tape on the door to prevent it locking. The first piece of tape was found and removed by a janitor. After the second piece was found he reported it. I believe Nixon's hatred of the press was one reason Nixon did not throw the men who broke in under the bus where they deserved to be!

I actually shook his hand May 1973. Here is some snap shots I took with a brownie camera.

I believe treating politics like a football game is useless. People get so caught up in all these personalities and team spirit BS that the big picture escapes their notice all together.

Both parties are owned and controlled by the same "special interests" the global banking cartel and the transnational corporations.

We don't elect the people who really run this country. We just get to choose between their puppets.

The national elections are just bad theater. They can't even find good actors to play the parts anymore.

To answer your question about racial reasons being behind the criticism of Obama! I can't speak for everyone else on the board, but you have my word that I could not care less that he is black! He could be the color of a brand-new rainbow, with one eye in the middle of his head, with a carrot for a nose, and cauliflower ears.

Because of his poor leadership, LIES, LIES, and more LIES, and his seemingly lack of patriotism and love for America, I say he is nothing more than an idiot community organizer who was elected to divide America and put it on a course that takes America out of the running as a major super power. He is the worst thing to happen to America in its history, and if Jesus don't return soon, he will have a legacy that speaks ILL of him for as long as history writes about American leaders!

However, his being black has nothing to do with my sentiments about him. In fact, I kind of like Dr. Ben Carson's, but because of Obama, I doubt if any American with any sense would vote another black man into office for decades to come, and that is unfortunate. Because Carson could be good for what America needs right now, at least in the role of VP. And I hope someone sees this too, when VP is being discussed.

Of course, there will be some who will attack me on Carson's, but along with General Colin Powell and Condi Rice, those are some black Americans that could lead America back to greatness! Still, I fear Obama has ruined it for anyone of color being in office, and that may be racist, but it is the ugly truth of how most people fell. IMHO!
