What intelligence! Did you think of that all by yourself?

I don't like bullies and I don't like people who make unwarranted attacks on others. I will always come to the aid of someone who is getting "beaten up".

Thanks for your affirmation! I know Jesus is pleased. [IMG]

I don't have enough proof to say what your doctrinal stand is but as to your label, I propose Baptist Board police or buttinsky for short.

There are about a half dozen threads right now of this nature in this forum and in the theology section. They have degraded away from Scripture and are reducing to personal attacks.

I do not like censoring. I do not like closing threads. I do however have a responsibility to uphold the rules and the vision of this board.

On this thread, http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=40;t=000004 , you will find this statement made by the creator of this site:
I will add to this that the concept of Soul Liberty is a cherished distinctive held by our faith. None of you will be prosecutors nor defenders at the Throne upon Judgement. Each of us will hold sole accountability for ourselves.

If you disagree with a fellow member, argue from your convictions and the Scriptures but please leave the personal attacks out of it.
This is a Christain ministry. Please treat it as such. Thank you.

Okay... We will see if you have been paying attention.

What is my label and on what basis do you assign it to me? Be specific about my doctrinal positions.

he is probably ROFLOL, with Murph and I! </font>[/QUOTE]Actually, I am not offended by the remark. I am proud of it. Jesus calls us to defend others who are being persecuted.

Thanks for the affirmation! [IMG] (This is not sarcastic.)

    Clint,

Thank you for saying much more charitably than I did exactly what I think.

I did ask -- and was affirmed.

Justified and C.S. Murphy also showed their character too.

Labels do have some merit when taking clothes to the cleaners; for diabetics to select their foods; and for manufacturers to identify their product.

Instead, we take people to the cleaners; miss out on a lot of good food and cast doubt on the Manufacturer.

Because I am Amillennial, reformed in doctrine and do not advance the dishpansensationalism so prominent in some circles, I have been labelled a liberal, a conservative.....no wonder it says in scripture...."In my Father's house are MANY mansions....." all divided by solid walls so never the twain shall meet....

There are many things I disagree with, but prefer to keep them private. My only test of fellowship is.."What think ye of Christ?" Does the rest really matter that we would alienate ourselves from wonderful fellowship? Certainly sound doctrine is important. Yes, the Bible is the word of God, but the key for all Baptists ought to be The Christ; the Lord Jesus Himself and our relationship to Him. Everything else will fall into line.......and get those drums out of the church...they aggravate me!......lol

Excellent point. I wonder if most people here consider that they may be grieving the Spirit with their personal attacks?

My hands are not completely clean in this regard, but I work hard to try to stick with the issues -- not blast the personalities.

May God's Spirit work with all of us to open our hearts toward each other.

    Dear Justified,

I think it's not necessarily what you say, but how you say it.

If your speaking from a heart of God's love, your words are tempered with it...and therefore kindness is the language that the person on the receiving end will hear.

Labeling is received as name-calling. When you call someone a "insert your label here" it is a manipulative, aggressive and offensive tactical move to win at all costs whatever the arguement or discussion was about in the first place.

If this is just the way you have always talked, and still don't understand what all the fuss is about...then maybe you need to regress, rethink and regroup and see what your motives are in having a conversation or debate... are you trying to share information with edification being your goal? or are you trying to win a football game... Agression is either responded to with retreat or more agression.

Another test to see if it may be something your doing, is to gage other peoples reactions to you... If you get a negative or angry response to what you say more than 10% of the time...then maybe the problem lies with you and not with them.

In order not to make a person play defense, you must not play offense. Did you ever play football in school?

Conversation and debate with fellow believers no matter how heated or diametrically opposed they are, is not football... there should be no winner and loser. We are on the same team.

A scripture that I use to admonish myself about topics such as this is:
But there are many admonishments regarding loving your neighbor as yourself, and tempering your tongue.

The problem I have with labels is that they all mean different things to different people. One person's liberal is another's conservative. One's conservative is another's liberal.

When you can label without sterotyping, label away.

Nope, I disagree. I think that the people who prefer to label others can't do it without stereotyping.

I wonder what you would label me as... I would hope that fellow believer would be sufficient.

I think that the labeling that goes on here and elsewhere is completely subjective and based not as much on what people are, but what makes you feel better to believe that they are.

On crosswalk.com, I'm an arch-conservative legalistic pharisee who neither knows, nor cares about the power of the Holy Spirit and refuses to believe that God can move outside of my own limited experience because I politely asked for scripture to back up someone's outrageuos claims that ran counter to sound doctrine.

On yes-I-believe.com, I'm a wolf in sheep's clothing who has come to steal away babes in the faith because I dared to ask which rules come from God and which come from man.

Two completely different perspectives and both are completely untrue but try telling that to someone who feels they need to justify where they are in their walk with Christ.

People are entirely too quick to judge somebody based on a few comments on a message board.

If someone had to deconstruct you based on nothing more than your posts on BaptistBoard, would they get the real you? Would they get a complete sense of who you are?

    Mike

For years I was left in the dark by labels like 'hyper Calvinist', etc. and I didn't have a clue what they were talking about.

At least today we can usually find out on the internet!

I wouldn't mind the label "Proverbs 31 woman", but I would have a hard time keeping up with her!

Smoke Eater is a nickname for firefighters, of which I was one. I'm currently "in between gigs" but hope to be a firefighter again so I can get free coffee at the diner. ;)

I'm thinking about changing it back to War Eagle, which is my alma mater's (Auburn U.) battle cry.

I am Southern Gospel lover. I would be interested in hearing this bit of info. I do not want to listen to those who are not living up to the songs they sing.

If you feel you cannot post this, feel free to PM me.
