If you consider yourself a "conservative" and another person says something you don't like, you call them a "liberal" so you can ignore what they have to say and start your self-righteous personal attacks of them.

If you consider yourself a "liberal" and another person says something you don't like, you call them a "fundamentalist" so you can ignore what they have to say and start your self-righteous personal attacks of them.

It's very simple and very easy. [IMG]

Jim, you have seen me for many years on the BB and I am offended by your classification of my beliefs and position as "cult".

(Well, I'm not REALLY offended, but trying to sound self-righteous and hurt for sure)

Please note: I have never SEEN Dr. Bobbie other than on this BaptistBoard and my reference to fundamentalists was because I was not allowed to use the more descriptive title of Funnymentalists. Besides, those who know, Dr. Bob, know he is laid up at the moment, and even with my cane, I can outdistance him, so I can say wot I want,,,,, [IMG]

Jamal is right. We don't use too many of those 'label's' locally either.

You've heard the Osmond song, "I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock and roll...' Well... I'm a little bit C and a little bit A, a chunk of F (Dr. Bob would have used a P there) and all pre/m but not KJVO or l.

Paul did not reject the unfavorable label put on him. He freely confessed, "after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers."

Jesus labeled people and then told us to beware of them.

    “Wolves in sheep’s clothing”
“Cast not your pearls before swine”

    Etc…

Jesus labeled some as vipers, too.

Labeling is good. Call me a member of the VRWC anytime. Call me born-again anytime. Call me a pre-tribber and a dispy. I don't care.

Well, I've even been called a bigot because I want the US borders sealed from illegal aliens. And I've been called narrow minded because I believe the WHOLE Bible is the Word of God and what God says about men lying with men, etc.

Lately, by the looks of some of these posts on here, I'm starting to not want to be called Baptist, because the term has gone generic as did the word "Christian." [IMG]

They weren't labels then. Unfortunately, in our zeal, we have not only turned them into labels, but over-used cliches as well, thus removing meaning from them.

The use of the word "viper" or "serpent" throughout the Bible was an analogy for one who does evil. It wasn't a label per se.

No, you were called a bigot because you expressed a view that the increase in the hispanic percentage of the population, and the decrease of the caucasian population, is something that America should be concerned about. In hindsight, however, though I felt your views were bigoted, it was wrong to call you a bigot, and if I did, then I owe you an apology.

    How is this for labeling:

"When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou.

And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly."

Now tell me in what respect that the modernists of today differ from the idolatrous nations of old. Both worship a different god. Both condone unclean sexual practices. Both are active in leading people astray from God.

Was Paul into labeling? You bet, he even commanded it. He said,

"Mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned and avoid them."

But if that isn't good enough for you crybabies, how is this:

"But this thou hast that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate."

    Or this:

"But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

Repent; or else I will come unto the quickly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth."

Now tell me, who does Jesus sound like? A modernist, an "evangelical" or a Fundamentalist?

I know, I know, a lot of you people can't use that kind of language because you are in churches or associations/conventions with people you know are infidels and you aren't about to disrupt the apple cart. You aren't about to bear the scorn and reproach that the "funnymentalists" have born for the past 80 years. You are a bunch of lilly livered cowards who love your own comfort zone more than you love the Christ who died for you.

    You make me sick!

    Right on, Mark! [IMG]

But we must expect to get this kind of response from liberals (pulled from another thread):

So if we stand up & speak out against evil, we are showing animosity and hostility.

Today it is verbal assault. What will it be tomorrow?

What's next for the funnymentalists and anti-sodomites - camps with barb wire?

The day is coming when we will have to decide - what side are we on. Are we willing to stand true to God's Word even in the face of death (as so many Christians around the globe are facing daily)? Or will we take the easy road, go against the conviction of the Holy Spirit and choose to take the easy way out so we can be politically correct?

Will we funnymentalists be strong and courageous enough to suffer martyrdom as did the apostles?

I see the day approaching when we may be called upon to suffer more than just verbal assaults in the West.

    RE: wolves, swine, serpents...

OK give it whatever label you want.
In today's Christianity Jesus would be pronunced politically incorrect because of His not-so-gentle treatment of others.

He had other "brands" as well: "hypocrite", "fool", "liar", "workers of iniquity", etc.

Of course He is the Son of God and can see into men's hearts, nevertheless He wasn't shy about labels (or whatever).

MODERATORS: I would just as soon see this thread locked. It was never intended to be a catcalling and badmouthing exercise, but simply to address the label issue, and the fact that labels are often meaningless, depending on locale.

    Cheers,

    Jim

</font>[/QUOTE]Perhaps if I were more often in agreement with you I would be less inclined to say you were being thin-skinned to see "verbal assault" in what you quoted. You sound like a fan of "hate crime legislation" here, which I doubt you to be, though maybe you think "hate crime legislation" is a good idea so long as it's your group that benefits. ¿ é ?

Treading the fine line on the edge of Godwin's Law? Trying out for Miss Hyperbole of 2003?

I don't know anybody on any side of this debate who is "going against the conviction of the Holy Spirit and choosing to take the easy way out so they can be politically correct.

If you need to suffer martyrdom I pray God you will have the strength and courage requisite thereto. I pray the same for myself, and for our GLBT brothers and sisters in Christ. But in the present moment I think you're just spouting off a bunch more hyperbole.

BTW I see you have appropriated the banned term beginning "funny...". Since by definition it means that you have added some extra "funny" obsessions to the fundamentals of the faith, I'm wondering what you see as your special fundamental beliefs. (I know that's a bit off-topic, but you did repeated use that banned term to refer to yourself.)

Typical modernist/evangelical/cry-baby tactic - when you have no argument put the opposition to silence.

    Mark,
The way you talk, you are the only one who has the guts to do anything for God.

Everyone else, you say, "makes you sick." Well, as far as I am concerned, you can just stay sick.
