Lady Astor vs. Winston Churchill

That the two did not like each other is well known. They had numerous verbal exchanges that show their quick wit. Here is one I like.

Churchill said, “having a woman in Parliament is like having one intrude” on him “in the bathroom”,

Lady Nancy Astor, an American who married into English upper society, was the first woman elected to Parliment.

Lady Astor serenely replied: “You’re not handsome enough to have such fears”

My fav. is
Astor :"Winston you are drunk!"
W.C. "Yes I am, and you are ugly,
but I'll be sober in the morning."

My fave is:

Lady Astor: "Sir, if you where my husband, I'd put poison in your drink!"

Churchill: "Madam, if I were your husband, I'd drink it!"

Mine also!!
Sure do wish I had that quick of a witty comeback.
I can always think of what "I shudda said" 30 minutes after it would have been effective.
