Woud you like to see a loved one killed because the authorities couldn't violate someone's rights ?

To answer your question, I would have to know someone who's rights were violted. also, to answer your question, I would have to see where any law was violated.

I am afraid that some of you good people would give up pretty much all of your rights if it meant that the government could keep you safe. :(

Of course, the hook in all of this is that government can't keep you safe even if you give up all of your rights.

Even you will give up your freedom before you will let your family die a slow hard death from radiation poison. So you should give Bush the benefit of the doubt so we can stop it from going that far. All your complaining about a little limited surveillance will come to nothing if New York goes down.

We do not have to give up our rights to save New York. In fact, giving up our rights will do very little, if anything, to save New York.

The old joke that real conservatives used to repeat was "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you" and conservatives would laugh.

Now we hear "I'm from the government and I'm here to protect you" and some conservatives just sit and nod their heads. :(

Just because you apparently have no problem with our government becoming a dictatorship in order to save us(which by the way won't), doesn't mean that real conservatives and freedom-loving liberals along with patriotic libertarians are going to go along with you on the idea.

That's about the only fer sure thing them expert policy makers can agree on Bunyon, the population of U.S. citizens (civilians) easily submiting to a military dictatorship after the next "big one". Hey, at least the authorities all agree on something.

Ken, this is not the vietnam war and we are not wearing love beads and being spied on while protesting.

Do you really think letting a supercomputer scan communications for certain key words is tantamount to a dictatorship. Condi, who you want for president, is all for it. The democratic leadership was consulted. How can you say this is the beginnings of a dictatorship?

Populations always choose order over chaos even it it means a dictator, so you just better pray the Bomb does not go off. Do you realize how likely it is to happen? It is not a matter of how but when. Better to delay it as long as we can.

I am not the pessimist you are, Bunyon, when it comes to "the Bomb" going off. I refuse to live my life with such a defeatist attitude.

"What luck for rulers that men do not think." Adolf Hitler

Yeah, it's as good as done. So submit to big brother and global government now.

I've always said you can never waste money on advertizing.

Why wait, submit to big brother and global government now, then you won't have to stand in line later.

Not a pessimist, an informed realist. And I am informed historically. There is no such thing as total freedom or total privacy. We need to obtain and maintaining the closet things to total freedom and privacy that we can. And right now, that means giving the president some leeway.

If the bomb goes off, Ken, you do realize we will loose mega amounts of freedom and privacy, and everyone will go with it. And who knows if we will then get it back.

Oh, by the way Ken. Read the article in January's Readers Digest that is dealing with this issue of the Bomb. It will be an eye opener for you, might even change your attitude some.

Well Ken, that is quite an understatement. If you think this is the beginnings of a dictatorship, than you can only drop your support of he, because she is one of the chief architects.

    Let's see...

Hillary wants to take over 1/7th of the US GDP in her healthcare scam...

Condi wants a computer to look for specific phrases in communications...

Which one do you think would control the population more strongly?

IMHO we can stick like glue (SCOTUS notwithstanding) to the constitution, and in so doing protect the rights of terrorists, both foriegn and domestic, and succome to Islam, just like france and much of Europe has, or we can give the Patriot act and Homeland security more teeth and put it off for a while.

But the constant hammering on my basic rights being protected at all cost, will come with a heavy price. Our democracy has already saddled us with the stupidest PC airport security system ever imagined.

We are in a situation where our democracy is being made the rotten apple in the barrel.

Got a link? I'm not going to buy it for one article and I can't read it at the local library as it had a fire a few weeks ago and is closed for repairs.

How many of the 9/11 terrorist were US citizens? How many were here because of our weak immigration policy that allows terrorist nations to send students here on a visa? The US Constitution was set up to protect the rights of US citizens, not illegal immigrants or terrorist visiting our country on a visa. A pre-9/11 Patriot Act would not have stopped 9/11, closing the borders, ending visas and passports to terrorist nations, including Bush's friends in Saudi Arabia, and using wise profiling at the airports would have stopped 9/11.

We don't need more laws and monitoring of our law abiding citizens, we just need to stop putting out the welcome mat to the terrorist nations and allowing all these people who hate us to come in our country to set up shop. We see this with gun control, some criminals break laws and use guns, so they pass laws to punish the law abiding gun owners. :(

Democracy is a rotten apple, that is why our founding fathers were so determined to make sure we were not a democracy. We have been moving towards a democracy for over 145 years, in order to become a true democracy they will need to get rid of that pesky Constitution, the Patrio Act is helping that become a reality.

One day Islam won't be the target of the Patriot Act and the federal monitoring. When the Christians become the "terrorist" we will have this administration to thank for giving the tools to our persecutors.

How much of the GDP already goes for healthcare?
[/QB][/QUOTE]We spend, as a country, nearly twice as many dollars per person as Canada does, but I don't know what the percent of the GDP is comes to.
