On April 11, The Washington Post ran an article about plans being made to reopen the economy. The article complains that state governors (rather than the White House) are leading the planning, which has resulted in a “mind-boggling level of disorganization,” according to a Centers for Disease Control director.

The incessant bleating of prominent health leaders over the lack of federal control in this crisis only underscores how little they understand or respect this country’s Constitution and the freedoms it seeks to protect. Although the White House certainly has emergency authority to mandate all number of efforts to respond to crisis, and obviously can pressure local leaders, the coronavirus has highlighted the structural nature of the Constitution and that one of the saving graces in the insanity we are living through is that lockdowns are local.

Our country’s structure is pretty straightforward on paper, even if things get a little complicated once all the parts start moving in real time. When the states formed the Union, they ceded power to a federal government cautiously, carefully granting to Congress enumerated powers and creating checks and balances to keep the federal government from evolving into tyranny. At least, that was the plan.

The states retained their historic “police power.” The police power is a state’s inherent authority to govern with a view toward its citizens’ health, safety, morals, and general welfare. Certainly, a state’s plenary powers are limited by the U.S. Constitution and state constitutions, but absent those restrictions, a state’s power is very broad.

Ordering lockdowns, then, is within the states’ authority, not that of the federal government. Bill Gates, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and anyone else advocating for a federally mandated lockdown either doesn’t understand the Constitution’s structure or doesn’t respect it.

Indiana has a governor who waits to follow the lead of Ohio's governor. Holcomb worked for Sen. Richard Lugar and then Gov. Mitch Daniels before Pence picked him. He started in elected office at the top and has no political base except the party machinery in my opinion. He said that 100 people should not have shown up at the state mansion to ask for the end of the lockdown. He probably was having some of that $13 a pint ice cream.

Trump says he 'strongly' disagreed with move to reopen Georgia -- contradicting source who said he agreed with it
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/22/politics/trump-pence-georgia-governor-brian-kemp/index.html

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence both called Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Tuesday night and expressed support and praise for the Republican's move to reopen businesses in his state starting Friday, a source familiar with the call said. Trump later said the opposite -- that he told Kemp he disagreed "strongly" with the decision.

The call came as public health officials warned that Kemp is moving too quickly, some business owners said they would keep their doors closed and mayors said they feared Kemp's action would deepen the coronavirus crisis in their communities.

I hate to say it, but this is not the first time that President Trump has made a statement that contradicted what one of CNN's sources said.

https://cnn.it/2VxTxAm

"Trump's public stance on Kemp marked an about face. Just the day before, on Tuesday, Trump and Vice President Mike Pence told the Georgia Republican via telephone that they supported his decision on reopening the state and praised his work as governor, according to a separate source with knowledge of the call.
But the President, around the time Birx met with Trump, had a second call with Kemp, according to two sources familiar with the situation. This call was brief and struck an entirely different tone than the first: Trump asked the governor to slow down his reopening plan, to which Kemp said no, according to the sources. The President said he'd call Kemp back later to discuss, but never did."

I'm not doubting the CNN report.

But you are talking two different things and making assumptions (or at least CNN is making assumptions).

President Trump has still been saying that we need to start reopening. He still seems to support Georgia reopening the state. But he has openly questioned the extent of the opening stating that things like opening salons, tattoo parlors, spas and gyms are premature in his opinion.

These are not contradictory statements.

Figures the communist news network would get it wrong. It doesnt mark an about face. In fact he has been quite consistent.

I am and have been doing what I want to anyway. Not much different around here except DMVHS is busy around Atlanta and is leaving us alone out here in thecountry. Sure is peaceful without the traffic Nazis aggravating me.

It's just a contagious flu but it dies in 75 degree heat and sunshine. The death rate is 1 or 2 per thousand, perhaps slightly higher than regular flu or much like regular flu. It is estimated that tens of millions of American had the flu but didn't know it as cases probably began in January. That is not to avoid the facts that elderly like you on Medicare are not high risks so you might want to quarantine yourself until after the election.
