Facts aren’t racist. They’re just... facts.
But these are not facts, even though the interpretation of the data matches your prejudices.

The "Heaton norms" are based on the socio-economic norms in a relatively small black population in San Diego. They do not take into account the differences in upbringing and advantages that more white people tend to have over black Americans. The NFL has taken this study and using it far beyond it's intended use, using it to prejudicially disadvantage black players simply based on "typical" results, using skin color, from a weak study.

I worked for a private school more than nearly 30 years ago, where most families had every financial advantage -- a very significant number of them were from millionaire families, and several from billionaire families (seriously). The tuition back in those days was about $30,000 a year for grade school students, not to mention thousands more for books, devices, and travel. Students had tutors, training for SAT/ACT tests, and highly personalized counseling to find student strengths and improve student weaknesses. A significant number of students had servants at home to handle all responsibilities, and students didn't need jobs to make ends meet or have plenty of spending money. For what it's worth, most of the students tended to be white or Asian, but the school also had a number of "scholarship" students who were brought in for ethnic diversity. They came from a background without many of those advantages, but when they were able to use the resources and assistance of the school, they excelled as well.

That's an extreme example, but the foolish idea that the level of melanin in one's skin is a general indicator of cognitive ability (note the spelling), is ridiculous.

My friend, this website now SICKENS me, for its continual attacks on "lefites" and black people. I doub't if I will continue on here, as the threads and comments are VERY UNCHRISTLIKE!!! The God of the Bible is COLOURBLIND!

WHY would someone even post this RACIST RUBBISH on a Christian website, to DEGRADE black people???

This Baptist Board has been hijacked by some BIGOTS, who keep posting complete THRASH on here! :Mad:Mad:Mad
To bad you didn't even read the artical, but just read the headline. The artical tells whats wrong with the bad attitude, not supporting it. The artical does not support the racism. Why not read it? The artical exposes the racism, which is from democratic nfl owners.

Totally misleading headline. The lawsuit is against the NFL and related to the compensations to ex-NFL players due to brain damage. The league office is using the assumption than Black NFL players start with lower cognitive skills than White players, thus must show lower post-injury skills than Whites to qualify for the compensation. It's a racist practice that needs to end.

Yes. That is what I wanted SavedByGrace to see. Thank you.

The nfl owners are reaching for a way to weasle out of huge, huge payments and have fell on a bad, unethical practice.

Indeed, a disgraceful practice, but the OP shows support for this!

LOL. How amusing for a sport which features spectacularly unintellectual player stereotypes. Not to disparage basket-weaving, but who got a higher grade in the class is a debate not to be missed? :Wink

Seriously, this really shouldn't be used as an opportunity to compare test performances racially. At best, this is about being able to assess extent and impact of injury. If a group tests statistically lower at the outset, then it may be fair to adjust later results accordingly. It doesn't really matter here why there might be racial differences in test performances.

The problem with stereotypes is that they are often spectacularly wrong. Being judged according to stereotypes is not only insulting, it puts people in stereotyped groups at a disadvantage.

At best, this is about being able to assess extent and impact of injury. If a group tests statistically lower at the outset, then it may be fair to adjust later results accordingly.
The point of the payouts is to compensate for present and future care. If a both a white man and a black man break their legs doing the same work with the same employer, does it stand to reason that the white man should be compensated more money for medical care since white persons in society, stereotypically, receive better medical care than black persons? Should the black man receive a lower quality of care? Should the black man receive less financial support since black persons, for economic reasons, stereotypically eat lower quality food, and therefore should have less compensation for living expenses?

Or, perhaps, let's turn that around. Should the white man with the broken leg receive less compensation than a black man since white families tend to have more generational wealth than black persons?

It really should not be about GROUPS or STEREOTYPES, but the level of impairment. Measuring impairment based on faulty studies (aka the "Heaton norms") is ridiculous.

It's just a news story.

Publishing a news story says nothing about the member who posts it.

Get over yourself.

Didn't take much reading to clear up any possible confusion, though. At least it shouldn't have.
