Layman's Bible Book Commentary--input?

I found a complete 24-volume set at a local bookstore.

The copyright is 1982 by Broadman Press (which was the name of SBC's publishing arm at the time).

Since that's only three years after the Conservative Resurgence (as conservatives called it, and I consider myself such), is that a good commentary to buy, or is it too liberal for someone of my viewpoint?

all depends what you want a commentary for. some people like myself, prefer a commentary to dig deeper into the actual text of the Bible, which deals with the original languages, which often shed greater light on the meaning, than a light-weight commentary, that is more like a basic overview of the text or passages. So, for the OT, I would refer to those by
Keil and Delitzsch, Keil and Delitzsch Biblical Commentary on the Old Testament. or the whole Bible, JFB, Bible Commentary Critical and Explanatory; Jamieson, Fausset, Brown. For the NT, there are A T Robertson Word Pictures, Robertson's Word Pictures of the New Testament Bible Commentary, and Marvin Vincent Word Studies., Overview - Vincent's Word Studies among others. Normally Broadman Press is Conservative.

There are four customer reviews of this set on Amazon. Unfortunately, none of the reviews are in depth (just a few sentences).

A review HERE mentions speaking positively of Acts commentary "as a beginner’s commentary," but goes on to say that the author of the commentary on Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel "has a low view of Scripture and this view suffuses everything he says."

Thank you for the response. However, it turns out the one I'm looking at has the same name but is not the one you described.

You're welcome. Strange that Broadman would issue two commentaries with the same name within two years!
