Learn how to make your kids eat veggies

But then so many parents eat unhealthy food.

If you wish to encourage your kids to eat healthy and want them to eat vegetables without making much fuss, starting early and often could be the key.

Exposing babies to a new vegetable early in life encourages them to eat more of it compared to offering new vegetables to older children, a new study has suggested.

Even fussy eaters are able to eat a bit more of a new vegetable each time they are offered it.

How many kids have you raised ?

All of them love veggies

Let me think about how many kids and adults have lived with us. At least 9 for fairly long periods of time and I cannot remember how many for short, less than 6 months, periods of time. I would hazard a guess of 20 or more.

I'm guessing the hatred thing is a joke? Or I missed something...

I never quite got it when people had really little kids who wouldn't eat veggies. If that's what you give them, how will they not eat them? They're infants. It's what they had, and they didn't have a choice. As things got more varied, it was their preference. If we did reward with food, it was special vegetables. LOL People thought I was weird. But I also had the only kids in the neighborhood that would do extra chores if I made the "special green beans" while the neighbor kids were clamoring for sweets. :tongue3:

It's the comment that parents are awful. He can't leave his prejudice out of a single post.

My point was that many adults do not eat a healthy diet and, thus, it is unlikely they will feed their kids a healthy diet. I am not sure how adults can be educated such they they would change their diet to a healthy one.

Do you have any suggestions on this?

Yes, if you feed your kids a wide variety of vegetables when they are young, they will love them. All of my children love veggies, we have never had to force them to eat them.

My Dad used to make black eyed peas with ham when I was a kid, and we thought that was a big treat too. Delicious!

Yup. Mind your own business. It is not up to you to judge, and it certainly isn't up to you to reach into our pockets to fix it. America has been telling kids on all of their favorite cable TV shows, posters, radio ads, etc ad nauseum, to eat their veggies for my entire life, and we still are throwing away food by the $$ millions, as I have demonstrated. It is not an issue of education, it is an issue of personal choice.

Why don't you just admit you want to get rid of the choice ? You want to force people to live your way, or pay penalties.

I'm not sure. My dad was big on fried bologna sandwiches, I had to eat a ton of those, and don't care to ever have another one.

Another one is boiled beets. I ate a truckload, but haven't had to suffer through one since I joined the Navy in '79.

My mom used to make me sit at the table until I choked down my plate of liver. Haven't eaten it since.

We've never had a veggie problem with our six children and our ten (so far) grandchildren. We always eat them so from the very start it was normal. Most of the time we didn't use jars of baby food, just mashed up veggies.

There is a point - if parents eat junk food that's what the kids are going to see as normal.

If parents don't care that their kids grow up as junk food junkies I reckon that's up to them.

And my point is kids have not been able to turn around without some sort of medium telling them to eat their veggies, since I was a kid, lo those many years ago. The message is there, from an early age.

Another point I make is when the feds start deciding this stuff, kids get their own lunches taken. Don't try and spin this into a good thing.

Yet another point is just because kids are not eating school lunches (since you can't really deny this is about the other thread) does not mean they are not healthy. My hockey coach had me on 4000 calories day in high school. Try coming close to that on a mandated lunch. (I brought my own. Peanut butter, bananas, meatloaf sandwich usually)

Yet one more point is the money being wasted on throwing fresh food away is starting to come out of other budgeted services, and that is ridiculous.

I like fried bologna, but haven't had it in years.

I love beets, I still eat them.

I like liver with lots of onions, but I can understand why many folks don't.

The only thing I just can't eat is eggplant. It totally disagrees with me and makes me feel strange when I try to eat it. My wife tried to fool me once years ago and gave me some breaded eggplant. I took one bite and started to shiver. She asked what was wrong, I said that makes me feel weird just like eggplant. She said, It is eggplant.

Maybe she was trying to kill me.

Liver….ugh. Just ugh.

I never had a problem getting my daughter to eat veggies. I used to carry little zip bags of carrots and celery everywhere we went. Her snacks were crackers with slices of cheese and ham, kept also in baggies. It was eat those or go hungry, and she knew I meant it. It takes no more thought than that.

What is this a Michelle Obama ad?

Not in my house, we always encouraged by example to eat veggies and my daughter did eat what we ate, but she is 23 now and the only veggie she eats now is corn. She hates veggies. Guess there goes that theory down the drain.

My Dad didn't tolerate finicky eaters, if you didn't want what was on your plate he would say that's OK, next meal will be in the morning. After about an hour or so, even vegetables looked good.

Oh, the torment. LOL.

It never got to that with my daughter. I never had a problem getting her to eat her veggies. Of course, I would have been laughing pretty hard at her during that tantrum.

Gotta agree with Bro Curtis about hearing it every time you turn around. Everyone knows to eat their veggies, it doesn't need to be announced and tons of money spent on "education." That's stupid.

My opinion though? It's not education or that enough kids don't end up liking them. Some don't, but the majority end up growing up liking enough healthy stuff because the majority of parents care and parent, so the issue?

The government stopping parents from parenting. You get caught making the kid go without for refusing food, you're in trouble. Remember the relatively recent case where the kid wanted fast food and the dad offered him many alternatives, including some pretty nice restaurants, but the little boy refused and he was accused of abuse and was facing losing custody? He even ended up "admitting" he was wrong not to take the kid to the fast food place.
Kids being told not to bring healthy home lunches to school, having them tossed, having junky lunches given to them instead, having their parents choices, parenting denied.
Being taught with all the signs and government interference that their parents choices are wrong and unhealthy and government choices are best, when you see how unhealthy the majority of government choices have been, both food wise and otherwise.

When parents aren't allowed to parent, you can't fix the kids by throwing more money at the issue. You already taught them not to respect authority/being taught, so why do you think your (government substitute parenting) is going to work and cause them to suddenly now eat their veggies? ROFL

PS: On the main page, the title of this thread just says "Learn how to make your kids..."

If you need help making kids, I would suggest private counseling, not the Baptist Board, mkay?
