Leaving messages

I realize that at times we can all be busy. We might call someone and leave a message, or twice or 3 times or 4,5,6, times

How many times is it too much to leave a message. I realize we can communicate by email, but at times I want to talk person to person.

Or is it just me.....

I would get annoyed if someone left more than one message for me, unless they forgot something in a previous message or if new information was necessary.

If it's urgent, call back, but don't leave multiple messages. Generally the person will just end up deleting them anyway.

My point is if I leave messages and the individual does not call me back.

This can mean a few things:

1) The person does not want to call you back.

2) The person doesn't regularly check this voicemail.

3) This person prefers other methods of communication.

I know of one person who will NEVER return a call. I can reach him by e-mail, though, all the time. It goes straight to his cell phone, which he usually refuses to answer.

It doesn't make sense, but I deal with it, and I e-mail him when I need to reach him.

Ah Salty! I am one of those irritating people who continually forgets to check her voicemail. I didn't even have voicemail (or a cell phone lol) until this past spring and I don't give out my cell number.

How does someone get ahold of me? Caller ID. That I check. Email. I check that a couple of times a week. Or snail mail if it is business related. MOF, I don't like to deal with business matters over the phone most of the time, so I likely won't do a call back especially if the number comes from a computer. (my perscription provider loves to call me with recorded messages, grr!)

For more personal stuff, folks know where I live. Drive up my driveway and knock on my door.

Seeing that the individual is some 250miles away, driving is just about out of the quetion.
Email is okay, but at times you do need to talk directly.
Call ID and recorders are nice, but I remember the good ole days when there wasnt such a thing - somtimes, I would like to go back...

I have a mentally ill relative. She will leave a message on every phone we have and then start calling them all again. I teach school. I work in another town. Tough to get to the phone at times only to find out they feel rejected because I haven't called them back yet.

Aside from that - I don't like to talk on the phone. Never have. I talk all day long and when I leave work I just don't want to talk to anyone else until Ron gets home. I need to recoup so I can talk to him. :p

What is the nature of the call? If it is personal, and they don't respond I would leave it at that. If it is business, send them a certified letter.

Then why even have a telephone.

Another pet peve of mine is a person who blocks their phone # if they call me, but blocks incomming calls that do not indicatae the phone number.

Why have a phone? So I can call out, of course!

I do not block my number but I do not answer blocked callers!!! Blocked, private and unknown calls go straight to that voicemail thingy I don't ever check lol. They are almost always: a kid playing a prank or trying to cause drama, a telemarketer, a charity, or a political ad.

I don't give my number to someone if I don't intend on answering them when they call. Equally, I'm not going to spend the extra $$ to keep my number unlisted to stop folk I don't want to talk to from calling. I'm just not gonna answer. Eventually, I'll check my voicemail. If I get to busy, well, you either have to call back or you have to send me a letter (which might take a day or two to make out of my mailbox, though I'm better about looking through my mail than I am listening to my voicemail.)

Based on the responses so far, Salty, I think it's just you. However, I'm surprised at the concensus that you don't need to return calls. I own a business and could not survive if I didn't return calls, even though I dislike doing it most of the time.

We still have a land for those times that the power goes out. Cell phones will only stay charged for so long in an outage. It's also easier to call places like Duke Power who recognize the land number.

I don't have numbers blocked, but if I don't recognize a number, I don't answer the phone until a message is left so I can know who I might be talking with.
