    I am told that all Catholic Christians have to go to Purgatory before that long awaited place called Heaven. Who knows maybe the Apostle Peter may give a pass to the popes that followed his elevation to Heaven.

    Why would anyone want to accept the teaching of the Magisterim as to this torture camp called Purgatory, when God wants us to believe that at death all Christians go directly to Heaven to await the Judgment Seat of Christ for evaluation of our works.

    Notice II Corinthians 5:8 and Philippians 1:23. Purgatory is un-Biblical and contridicts these most hopeful passages from His inspired thoughts.

    I think I'm done on this thread. The abuse of II Corinthians 5:8 against purgatory is so tired its in a coma.

    And calling it a "torture camp" shows that you both don't know how to listen to those you disagree with and that you are not as learned as you think you are.

    Good day, sir.

    You're told wrong.

    I think all of us Catholics here want to take all of our non-Catholic brothers and sisters seriously, but some of you just keep tossing up this kind of nonsense (talk about vain repetition! :eek: ) and it really makes our desire hard to achieve.

    Maybe you think being fully and perfectly purified by God before entering into His Presence is a torture camp. That doesn't mean we believe it.

    Please don't tell me you are being serious with these comments. </font>[/QUOTE]I don't think he is, but to answer his questions, because the idea of the drastically different faiths we have today was something Jesus never intended for his Church. Protestants say that they are pretty much all the same with very minor disagreements, but that is hogwash. Everything from denying the Trinity to denying the diety of Christ resides as official protestant teaching, depending on what church you attend. Christ intended for their to be only one faith and only one Church, until I know that Catholicism is this one faith and Church, I don't intend on jumping unto any bandwagons.

    But be careful, my dear brother, that if it does occur to you, as it did me, the profundity of the "bread of life" discourse in John 6, all of the other teachings of the Church will fall together like pieces of a Leggo puzzle!

    I believe in God,
    the Father Almighty,
    Creator of heaven and earth;
    and in Jesus Christ, His only Son,
    Our Lord;
    who was conceived by the holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, died,
    and was buried.

    He descended into hell;
    the third day He arose again from the dead;
    He ascended into heaven,
    sitteth at the right hand of God,
    the Father almighty;
    from thence He shall come to judge
    the living and the dead.

    I believe in the holy Spirit,
    the Holy Catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and life everlasting.

    Amen.

    Hey, if someone feels that they can better serve the Lord by leaving Catholicism, more power to ya. I'm in no position, and have no spiritual authority, to tell you otherwise. If, otoh, someone feels they can better serve the Lord by converting to Catholicism, more power to ya. I'm in no position, and have no spiritual authority, to tell you otherwise.

    You had a boring priest. I've listened to Baptists pastors that put me to sleep faster than drugs! Whether you believe or don't believe in a particular faith/doctrine shouldn't be based of course on good preachers/bad preachers or emotionalism. I've also listened to a couple priests while visiting that were very engaging and made us think about our own faith in Christ.

    Adam, you misuse the words faith and church.

    1. Faith (as God asks us to have) is merely a strong belief or a dedication to Himself. IT IS NOT A DENOMINATION

    2. The word church also does not imply a DENOMINATION.

    When a person realizes that, then the purpose of One God, One Faith and One baptism falls together like the pieces of a Leggo puzzle. (Did I say that?) [IMG]

    (Putnam)

    (Singer)
    Profundity of the "bread of life" is nothing more than realizing that Jesus came to be our savior and when we receive Him, confess Him and believe in Him; we have the spirit of new life within us. That's the gospel story in a nutshell and it is the motivation of myself and millions of others like me.

    Yes, believing that the bread of life is something that is to be eaten during communion and to then believe that all the puzzle pieces of Catholicism will fall together is probably and misfortunately true. For to take that first step to stray from the truth will no doubt accelerate all the other misconceptions of whatever that church teaches.

    And I have Him exactly that way, plus Him in the Eucharist. What more could I ask for?

    "Misconceptions" that were in place since the writings of the early fathers, who elaborated upon what scripture said, and what the Church taught then, and continues to teach today.

    That is 2,000 years of history no other Church can claim...

    A knowledgeable Christian believes that you must believe in the Trinity and the Deity of Christ in order to be saved. Read I & II John. Some who are members in Protestant Churches might not believe in the Deity of Christ, which is proof that they are a member of a social club, but not a Christian Church. Don't put this mess on a born of the Spirit Protestant. Liberals of this kind will drop in Hell as quick as a blatent sinner.

    Someone said, 'Protestants say that they are pretty much all the
    same with very minor disagreements, but that is hogwash. Everything from
    denying the Trinity to denying the diety of Christ resides as official protestant
    teaching, depending on what church you attend.'

    What a way to "deal with the details" of the opening post....

    Oh - I get it "shoot the messenger" if you "can't deal with the details of the message".

    Hmmm I wonder in which dark ages we saw that come from.

    (A fitting symbol - of sleep posted by our RC brother).

    Excellent opening post - a Keeper.

    Ray, if you're a Dr. why do you rely on what people tell you instead of research?

    Bob,

    You accuse them of distrusting the authenticity, but you fall into the gross category of trusting too much. Do you know the person? Then you can't verify the truthfulness of it. But that doesn't stop you from making fun of the priesthood by that last remark.

    How "unsurprising."

    Looks like its time to take another BaptistBoard hiatus. RTS, best of luck you. ;)
