My dad, an interpreter did an air drop into France behind the D-Day beach assault. He than fought in the Battle of the Bulge ... 101st Airborne. We all have something to be proud of.
FWIW, from 1972-1993 I was a member of a Baptist Church in Clarksville TN, which adjoins Ft. Campbell KY, the home of the 101st.
We had many members from the 101st (They still do!), some were still wearing their BDU's when they entered for Wednesday evening services.
One of our secretaries was/is married to an officer who is now a Lieutenant General and heads West Point.
When I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base (1967-1969), I had the opportunity to drive through Bastongne, and also to visit the cemetery in the Netherlands where many of the 101st's who tried to secure "A Bridge Too Far" are buried.
Maybe growing up not too far from Valley Forge and Washington's Crossing, PA, has something to do with my thoughts, concerns and prayers for those who serve in the military.
