Apparently, the situation is becoming quite dire in Oregon. An acquaintance received this message from her boyfriend in Oregon:
"Dearest,
I am hanging on as best I can here in the land of the Oregonians. Today I saw an angry crowd just down my street burning a pile of fuel nozzles. I have heard tale of gasoline pumps being burned in effigy in various places around the state. The authorities are trying to maintain order, but how much longer can this desperate condition continue? HOW MUCH LONGER??? If only the politicians had left us alone in our socialist paradise of full service ecstasy. We are not ready, we are not capable, to handle this largesse of economic liberty being foisted upon us - the choice between pumping our own or being pumped by another. The possibility of torn off hoses, the lonely gas tank caps left on car roofs, the gasoline overflowing - it is all too much to bear.
I will shelter as long as possible but I must go out at some point for milk and bread - if there is any left in the stores. Think well of me. I will write again when, and if, I can.
Name Withheld"
