You would be shocked if God revealed to you how full of bull you really are. Yes- you... and me too.

Humble people don't TRY TO APPEAR HUMBLE.

Peace makers don't go around exalting themselves as peace makers.

Most of us ACT like we are concerned about non-Christians reading these threads but when it SUITS us we get just as nasty as those we lecture for their nastiness.

So let's cut the bull crud, guys (and gals).

If you think you are mature and enlightened it is unequivocal PROOF that you are most assuredly THE OPPOSITE of mature and enlightened.

There is no way to discuss matters such as these without being pointed; without saying things bluntly in a way that some people are going to get upset.

If we are concerned about non-christians reading these threads so we have to put on airs of being always gentle when NONE of us believe that you should always be gentle- then this site has NO PURPOSE other than to deceive.

But the fact is that NONE of us are ALWAYS concerned about being nice for the sake of lurkers because ALL of us get pointed and rough when it suits us.

Old Union proved that in the very thread he started to lecture people about being ALWAYS sweet.

He pleads for sweetness and then when someone questioned his sincerity he IMMEDIATELY got vicious.

Let's just talk like men (those of us who are) and let tempers flair from time to time. Let's stop trying to fool ourselves and others that we are SO VERY sensitive to lurkers or fellow Christians.

ALL OF US on this site get angry and hateful when it suits us and MOST of us get pious and holier than thou condemning others for being angry and hateful when it suits us.

We are all plagued with an arrogant, self-centered, self-exalting, self-righteous Adamic nature and it comes out often. It shows itself through our preaching down at others as if we are more enlightened and sensitive and it shows itself when we get vicious.

Let's acknowledge that we are all plagued with the flesh, talk like men and go on.

I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE BETTER FOR NON-CHRISTIANS TO SEE.

What they despise is this holier-than-thou, putting on fake airs crud.

When they see that we recognize that we have tempers just like they do, and they see we recognize we can be self-righteous with the best of them- it tears down barriers of bull crap which stinks in their nostrils repulsing them away from the Faith and it reminds them of the Gospel-

JESUS CAME TO SAVE SINNERS OF WHOM WE (ON THIS BOARD) ARE CHIEF.

So let's stop the self-righteous bloviating about how we STAND FOR GENTLENESS and have GREAT CONCERN FOR NON-CHRISTIANS who might read these threads.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be sensitive to all these things but there is an OBVIOUS sense from so many of us lecturers that there is MORE than just CONCERN in our snotty lecturing.

Let's cut the bull and be real- what do you think?

Strangely enough, I tend to agree with you. This may be the one and only time. :)

But let us not forget that the purpose is to bring glory to Christ. And when the board starts to become a tool of the devil...
The CF boards became that way.

I think that the truth is no matter what we do, regarding things we think are "spiritually edifying" or positive, there is some degree of self aggrandizement involved. Somewhere in the recesses of our heart, we are incapable of doing "positive things"in complete purity.

My friend David, I believe that Rev Browns Calvinistic nature is now running to something Cromwellian LOL. Now he is on the march to strangle probity which he can never do because we are all sinners and our worst crimes of humanity is hypocrisy, which is self evident....of that I would completely agree. There just isn't a human being alive that doesn't wallow in it.

Now you want to be honest & come clean about this whole human nature thing....."Hypocrisy should not be wholly detested." Without it we should have no civilization, nor could people live together a single hour without killing each other. Other words for it are gentility & tolerance & regard for neighbor, and self restraint & self-discipline. I might go so far as to say that without it we should have no churches & no religions. Your proposal Luke could just put you outa a job!

There is a old saying, i don't care what you know, untill i know you care. Math 12: 20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and a smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgement unto victory.

There is a difference between being pointed, snarky, cutting (insert appropriate adjective here ---> [...]) as the primary motive, and acting that way in the heat of debate. I try to be civil, but there are times when civility is tantamount to rolling over on important issues. It is at those times that I am quite willing to fulfill the north Jersey stereotype and dispense with pretense, and hit right between the eyes. Oh, and I am that way in person. Too many ministers of the Gospel go through their lives afraid that they might offend and bring dishonor to the name of Christ. These dear men need to realize that avoiding confrontation can be just as dishonoring. Confront sin and false teaching in an appropriate manner. If it is an arm around the shoulder, fine. If it takes a kick in the fanny, then do it! I do not agree with John Maxwell's theology, but I like the following quote he made, "I can't stand sissy preachers."

I love the truth of that saying and the passage you reference and I get the gist of your post, but, you have to admit, Christ never minced words with His adversaries, He told it like it is.

Well, yea, but He was also The Prophet of all prophets to 'that generation' of Israel. I believe you'll be hard put to find a 'mealymouthed' prophet anywhere in the scriptures.

Heheh, no we're not talking about prophets, I was just sharing my thoughts with salzer_mtn on his post, which I appreciated. QF says, "there is some degree of self aggrandizement involved"; probably a lot of truth to that. I would say there are some who take themselves too seriously.

I guess the point i was trying to make, for example, If i walked up to a stanger to witness to him or her and i said, If God don't have mercy on you, you will go to hell. Even though i told them the truth and maybe later on after they had called the cops on me, they might think it over but wouldn't i have had more influence on that person if i had presented the truth in a more carrying way ?

I grew up in a rough crowd.

Most of the men I grew up with would find this to be repulsive. Men who pull wire, hang sheet rock, roof houses, plow fields, lay pipe, hang shingles, pave roads, etc... tend to find Christian men who mince words and speak sweetly to be effeminate.

I have had the greatest success looking them in the eye and telling them, "Look man- you walk on God's earth, you breath his air. It is wickedness for you to refuse to serve him."

You'll reach them by being REAL a whole lot better than by being "sweet".

We wonder why our churches are full of mostly women- here's why.
