“Specifically, you educate Christians on what the Bible says in areas where they can be instrumental including the areas of sanctity of life, the definition of marriage, biblical justice, freedom of speech, defense, and borders and immigration, U.S. and Israel relations,” read a letter from IRS Exempt Organizations Director Stephen Martin to Christians Engaged, a nonprofit group seeking tax-exempt status. “The Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican Party] and candidates. This disqualifies you from exemption under IRC Section 501(c)(3).”

IRS denies tax-exempt status to Christian nonprofit group because 'the Bible’s teachings are typically affiliated with the Republican Party' (msn.com)

Even though it is obvious the Democrats are waging war on Christianity, still many on this board vote for Democrats.

I think this brings in a completely different question.

Should churches have tax exempt status? Why?

Great question. Any tax system is constructed to provide necessary funding for government activities. But at the same time, the taxes should not destroy the economic system being taxed. And history tells us sometimes carve-outs are created in the tax law (loopholes) to benefit those providing support for the office holders (quid pro quo).

Now those in power want to curtail fossil fueled vehicles and expand battery powered vehicles. So rebates and such are put into the Law. And in the recent past, crooks claiming to make solar panels got tax money to provide jobs. But it was a hoax.

In the past, those in power wanted to expand the wholesome influence of churches, and so tax exemptions were created. Now in the post Christian era, folks want to use the tax system against Christianity.

Thank you for the reply! I am mostly curious how everyone would answer that question.

I know many friends who are afraid of the church losing that exemption and who knows... it could happen. I wonder if other countries treat churches the same way with being tax exempt.

Should churches have tax exempt status? Why?

1) churches should not be making a profit (of which taxes are based on)
2) Churches are to provide assistance to those in need (but not greed)

I think many countries do not tax churches, and thus classify them as either "non profit organizations" or charities.

Now, if they do have an enterprise - such as a coffee shop, living quarters, - and if they charge and do make a profit- that should be taxable.

So that should make it really clear that the Democratic party of today is not associated with Bible or God at all!

A[[ears time is coming where each local church will have to decide to follow the Lord and keep doing his work, or submit to Caesar in order to keep tax status!

Matthew 22.21

21."... Then He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the thing that are Caesar's, and to GOD the things that are GOD'S." (Matthew 22.21) (Mark 12.17) (Luke 20.25).

Church always was and is and will be the business center for profit. It corrupted from the beginning because it cannot stay in the Word of GOD.

So, if the church profit from donations and contributions by investing in the market, acquiring properties, and profit from their investments, and generously paying to pastor, ministers, and missionaries, to all these free loaders for their "services," then of course they must pay their taxes.

So why government legally allowed church not pay taxes and the IRS so easy on it? Because governments to some extend run by Satan and the governments of the Earth serve him.

The Satan tempted the church with no taxation, and the church is happy to take his bait.

This is how Satan really corrupted the church by using their greed, dishonesty, and their materialism, to derail them from the path of the Lord and turned them into greedy profit machine.

Church no longer serve its original purpose and turned to profit making enterprise by using all available resources and options to get rich, profitable, and influential.

I have been laughing for 20 minutes. "generously paying pastors!!!" then why are over half of our association pastors - Bi-vocational.. And why is it that I do not have to pay any income tax on the amount that my church pays me!!!!

Nothing about this post is true or within the bounds of reality

These points are very true but I wonder if the churches that are not providing would eventually cause the government to take away that status?

I know it's been talked about due to a lot of the prosperity teachings/teachers.

I'm a bit confused. You would see it as a sin of the church laid taxes?

I think you mean the Gross profit and then what we have left over is the NET.

That's awesome that you're a pastor!

The government does tax us beyond just what we make though..Federal government taxes gasoline and the state taxes nearly everything.

No, rather that there will be a time when the local churches will have to decide if they wish to keep rax exempt status, have to have sermons approved as being "correct", or else keep preaching the Bible and losr tax staus!
