It is possible to engineer a deadly virus by recreating a deadly virus, the CDC has done this. They have been able to do some amazing things with diseases. CDC using pieces of other viruses and the genome from dead victims made it live again.

Thing is this Covid-19 virus is not very deadly though to be a useful effective war bio-weapon. And they would have to know, unleashing it in USA, the virus would spread worldwide and back to them. And lots of Chinese are sick, means no prevention of sickness for their own people?

it backfired on them - vehicular accident in delivery,
supposedly it is a three stage bio-bomb with stage 2 the most deadly.
we dont know what prevention procedures they had/have for their own people.

A lot of really awful diseases have spread across the globe in the past and none were bioengineered.

If it was deliberately released then maybe whoever did it was after disruption of world markets and economies , they want to sell short stocks and then buy long.

Found this and I do not think Chinese government would want to kill off and disrupt their own people this badly. But I could imagine instead of this as a bio-weapon, they could have had an accident of something they had modified or were studying. It is also interesting this here,

Meaning it could have simply been a tragic accident. And that genetically western people are much less likely to have a serious case as they have a natural resistance to the virus.

All speculation and none will tell you this happened if it did happen. Nations are secretive about these things.
