Mr. Curtis - my research on the word "day" in Revelation 18:8 tends to lean towards the definition of the word as being the eastern rendering of the word; meaning, any part of the day is considered day.

In that regard, there would be no conflict between verse 8 and verse 10, for one hour of a day is still part of that day.

Sort of like me saying "tomorrow" in verse 8, instead of the more specific "12:18pm tomorrow" in verse 10.
Yeah,..I didn't want to hijack the thread, but conversations like this would really be a blessing to me. Thanx, Don. I kinda hought that already, but thought it would make a good topic for discussion.

I like the idea, but have some qualms. I mean, let's face it there are folks who read the first chapter or so of Genesis literally, and yet, because one sees them as poetry, and the other as prose, they come to differing views on the age of the earth. RC claim to take John 6 literally where we don't.

Can we get an actual definition of lietral? Do we mean "appropriately literal" or woodenly literal? Contyextually? According to the literary form?

(With the understanding that some Scripture has MORE than just one literal meaning, or can be in layers & allegorical, poetic, as well, in addition to the literal meaning.)

Such a GLORIOUS IDEA! Murph!

PS: Edited to say: On issues like the Virgin Birth...
God promised it O.T., fulfilled it N.T. End of Story. No doubt, no questions here, no skepticism in this corner. Period.

The forum might be a good idea.

But I would like to see it open to all. The topics should all do with "literalism", but everyone is allowed to post, not just "literalists".

It would also be interesting to see how different people approach literalism, like Latreia mentioned.

In my experience, there is no such thing as a "pure" literalist. Especially in the areas of "end times", nobody takes everything literally, and I think a "literal" forum might be a good place to discuss some of the examples.

This post applies to both this thread and Brother Murphy's other thread about a conservitive forum.

Why do we need narrowly focused fourms. If you want to discuss something as Don and Mr. Curtis are doing here, simply start a thread in the approiate fourm.

If we have only narrow fourms I can eventually see a forum for

Baptist Men Who Are Now IFB, But Used To Be SBC, and have Attended CBF Churches, Who Also Believe In The Virgin Birth, Take The Bible As Literal, Don't Believe In CCM, but Don't Mind A Little Dancing Now and Then As Long As You Dance With Your Wife.

LOL.

I thought the entire forum was already conservative.

Warm Christian greetings!

Yes, definitely; it's about time we had a board where liberal apostates can't promote their evil views.

Kind regards

And who gets to decide who is "liberal" and/or "apostate" and which views are "evil"? You?

While I appreciate sound interpretation, this kind of thing has been suggested before, and it typically gets shot down very quickly. Way too many trappings involved.

(sighs) Once again the thread is hijacked into Monty Python jokes which is so typical around here!

Because when people don't want to face up to the truth they just might be wrong, hijacking is the usual M.O. (sighs in LITERAL disgust!)

he bravely turned his tail and fled

</font>[/QUOTE]Wow... The revisionism has already started. Joshua mentioned Monty Python and our honored moderator joined in with a quote and now it's the "liberals and apostates highjacking the thread".

Who is the "apostate" and who is the "liberal?"

p.s. It would be easier to say on topic if you would stop throwing the blanket condemnations around...

Bill you are right, as Peter said the sow will return to the mud and dogs will eat their vomit, and that has been well documented on the board. But we are sick of having other people throw theirs at us. If the majority is so sure that we will self destruct then will someone with the authority to do so please give us the ammunition so we can shoot ourselves in the foot.

No one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition!

A thread gone awry, alas!
