I agree. Those nasty brits are much more violent than we Americans. :)

Evidently. Or maybe it just shows that killers will kill with any weapon available. Outlawing guns made no difference at all.

It actually does make a difference. Disarming the law abiding gives the criminal the upper hand.

Praise the Lord for that! Think how high the murder rate would be if they did!

It might not be any higher as you would still have the same percentage of people who would commit murder, the only difference is people would just be shot to death instead of stabbed. Think of the positive side though, a 130lb woman could actually triumph over a 230 lb man who was trying to rape her if she had access to a firearm. But we know that could never happen, the Brits seem to want everyone to become victims.

If you guys are interested in the actual numbers the NYC and London have a similar homicide rates this year with London having 1 more than NY. The reason is because a short spike London's murder rate over the small sample size of 2 months as well as New York's crime rate coming down to historic lows, much of the drop occurring after 2013 when the SAFE Act gun regulation was introduced to NY state.

NYSAFE Act Gun Reform | SafeAct

London murder rate overtakes New York's

I would say this is a celebration of New York's gun control laws bringing its murder rate down to London's level after being more than double the London rate since these statistics have been kept.

Sorry, but the SAFE Act had nothing to do with the drop in murders in NYC. New York State has always been the most regulated of states concerning firearms. The "Safe Act" dealt with things like magazine capacities, a ban on the sale of new so called "Assault Rifles" ( no currently owned rifles of this type were confiscated), more stringent background checks (If I want to sell my shotgun to my brother I would have to do a background check on him), a re-registration of pistols already registered, among other provisions.

In New York City, where it is virtually impossible to get a Concealed Carry Permit (unless you know the right people) they continued on with it's same onerous gun control provisions as before the Safe Act. The "Safe Act" did virtually nothing to impede the ability of the criminal element to get firearms, they are still available on the street (the black market) as they always were. The drop in NYC murders is due to other factors, not the so called "Safe Act".

That in no way substantiates that the "Safe Act" was responsible for the drop in murders. Most murders are done with pistols, not the so called "Assault Rifles" which was the main thing that the 'Safe Act" was addressing. A re-registration of pistols already registered? Come on, how could that affect the drop in NYC killings? Magazine capacity? Seven rounds is enough to kill someone, heck I could use a 5 shot .38 revolver and have at least 2 rounds left over.

Your attempt to portray the so called "Safe Act" as the reason for the drop in murders is specious at best. Again New York State had plenty of gun controls already in place and NYC's laws were already more onerous than the rest of the state.

Like you said. NYC has some of the tightest gun control in the US. That is a big reason for the drop in violent crime and murder in the city. The murder rate was already going down before the Safe Act but took a much bigger drop afterwards. Another big reason is increased wealth/decreased poverty. Decreased gun availability and increase socioeconomic status will bring about less violent crime and gun deaths.

NYC's near-poverty rate drops by percentage point, de Blasio says

Meanwhile murders in US cities is going up across the US as a whole.

The U.S. Murder Rate Is Up But Still Far Below Its 1980 Peak
Murder Is Up Again In 2017, But Not As Much As Last Year
