Longest State Highways

I always smile when I see the road-sign just after I get on Interstate 40 (Old Route 66) which read something over 2000 miles to somewhere on the East Coast.

Now I-5 in California runs from Mexico to the Oregon border, more than 800 miles, but because it is an interstate, the list excludes it. I expect I-10 which runs through Texas is also more than 800 miles.

Looked at 4 states I was very familiar with and did not get ANY correct. Fun time, lots of memories of fine state highways

Had the same thoughts on long interstates. That is another listing. State Highways (this listing) "may" run concurrent with US Highways and/or Interstate Highways for some distance but must have their own distinct identity at some point

Not a state highway, but I'm guessing that Maine has the biggest share of US 1. (Unless FL has more.)

Thanks. The mileage has been changing, for whatever reasons I don't know. The sign at Fort Kent read 2,209 miles back when we lived there - 1976-85. A 2012 article in Down East magazine had the distance as 2,390, and of course Wiki has the table you posted. The Maine experience on Rt 1 is certainly different from that in any of the other states it crosses - no surprise there.
