Looks like prices will be going up, up, up!

So thankful we'll have a President who will deal with long-term issues. 95% of what Reagan and now Trump SAID is for negotiating, not for implementing policy. Last night, Canadian uber-lib Trudeau called Trump for TWO HOURS to work thru these issues. Trump made his career in business and I think we will hear all the LOSERS (of the election) hang crepe and bemoan, more ways to attack Trump since they were unsuccessful at the polls.

Getting my popcorn ready.

All of you protectionist tariff fans are going to miss free trade after President Trump decimates it.

Are you folks who complained so loudly about higher prices during the Biden presidency going to complain just as loudly about higher prices, maybe going up even more, during the second Trump presidency?

Congress should reclaim the power to set tariffs, as well as all of the other powers that the Congress has ceded to the presidency since the end of World War II.

Biden is still president. Why don't we WAIT and SEE if they go up 50 to 100% in a couple of years?

Nope, the cost of living will go down, and the quality will go up, and quickly.

It depends on the tariffs.

As it looks Trump is adopting something closer to the DNC tariff policy (reciprocal tariffs) than previous GOP tariffs (protectionist tariffs). And this in the context of negotiation. Prices can increase depending on negotiations, but at the same time there is greater potential for an increase in GDP.

Predictions at this time is foolishness. Too much depends on the reaction of other nations.

I suggest all pro-tariff folks - be they Biden or Trump supporters - read about the history of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act in 1930 and the resultant decimation it caused to United States trade, and the worsening of the Great Depression caused by it.

That is my point.

The RTAA tariffs (which were reciprocal) were a reaction to the Smoot-Hawey Tariffs (which were pritectionist tariffs).

People need to go back and read the two acts and what happened.

The issue is too many (mostly Democrats) are pretending (lying) that Trump's tariff plan mirrors the GOP Smoot-Hawley tariffs when instead they are much closer to the DNC RTAA tariffs.

The Smoot-Hawley tariffs are irrelevant. Why? Because Trump specifically suggested reciprocal tariffs. The RTAA is relevant.

What happened? The US met the tariffs that other nations imposed and used them for negotiations.

I am an anachronistic old man who is in favor of free markets and free trade; as I am a minarchist whose politics are no longer in touch with those of the United States in the 21st century. Thus, I am shutting down my involvement in the discussion of politics with other people. Going forward, my political discussions will be limited to the trio of me, myself, and I.
