With the HUGE potential scandal in the news about the Dodgers, I thought I would remind folks that the 2017 Astros were scapegoated by the MLB front office for something other teams were doing as well. I think there were 3 reasons why the MLB front office did so:
1) The Astros were using statisticians instead of “baseball people” to decide how to construct their roster.
2) The Astros defeated one of the MLB front office’s darling teams in the American League playoffs - the New York Yankees.
3) The Astros defeated the other MLB front office darling team in the World Series - the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It will be interesting to see, if the Dodger scandal is thoroughly verified, whether or not the MLB front office will lower the boom on the Dodgers or try to ignore it.
