Lunch in NY City Schools

If they don't eat the cafeteria food, and bring their own lunch, do they eat with the other kids at the same tables? That's what we did. And for us, Friday would have been a big day of snubbing the cafeteria with anything like this.

A few years ago I went to school for "Grandparents" day where you could eat lunch with your grandkid. Most grandparents brought in something special and sat off by themselves with their own grandchild. I went through the lunch line with my grandson's class and sat down at the kids table. He grabs my Doritos so I took his applesause. Then the whole table joined in with a massive food exchange. Our whole table eventually got in trouble. I don't think they have grandparents day any more. At least I haven't been notified.

We usually (I don't think always) had fish on Friday; a square fried fish filet. And I got the idea that that was because it was Fry-day. For a while I really thought that.
