ANd that's part of what I was saying. The only reason to not be listening to a sermon and watching body movements to see if a person is being disingenuous would be if there was some predisposed bias.
The man had been in that pulpit for 40 years. Why would anyone think he was doing anything other than preaching the word of God as he has for 40 years?
Some people have never heard real preaching. They have heard some clever public speaker ,someone joking in the pulpit, a story-teller.
There is a distinct preaching gift that not all have.I have seen this man preach many times. Sometimes there is a calm joy, sometimes a masterful unpacking of scripture...sometimes a fired up sermon where it looked as if he was going to rip the top off the pulpit.
There were times all these elements were in the same sermon. As far as being convicted of sin in the life, there was many a time the sermon had your name on it, as if it was written just for you.
I will not stand by and let these people be critical of a man who was loved far and wide.....His 4 message series on God's word to the nation is still a classic and you will not find a clearer biblical exposition anywhere.
His series of sermons on a Christians speech was masterful. You always get something good from these sermons.
