Didn't the early church join in on taking this land from Indians, by force, if needed? Didn't early church goers join in to fight each other in the Civil War?

I don't mean to cause a fight with you either, but, I think the church in America, and Europe [the crusades] did take by force and defend by force their property, families, and rights.

Am I wrong in seeing history this way?

And because these so-called Christians in the past acted in non-christian ways Christians of the present need to follow suit? Not exactly the best or most logical course of action, IMO.

And at the risk of being criticized like another poster for being facetious, I will add "the sky is falling the sky is falling". Makes about as much sense as claiming religious persecution will be the end result of lack of Christmas displays....

Oh, and another thing. MP is right about the ACLU and his assessment of your post(s).

Denny's Got it Right

I was able to have a cup of coffee and pie in a local Denny's and enjoyed the traditional signs of the season. I guess I'm old school folks, but, there is something special about the season and the decor that comes with it. I thanked the manager for not bowing to the fear of offending others, and he thanked me for sharing my heart.

I enjoy the "traditional" signs of the season as well, I just don't particularily mind if a business chooses to not to use them. In fact, I really care less, but then again my family does not celebrate Christamas in the "traditional" fashion anyway. Instead of opening gifts on Christmas we celebrate Jesus' birthday by having a birthday party of sorts for Him, complete with a cake and all.

ON a side note and off topic: I do find it kind of ironic that Denny's does not worry about offending others, considering the poor track record they have in that department. You would think multi-million dollar judgments in class action discrimination suits would change their perspective a might bit in this area. Did they really learn their lesson after all? :saint: ;)

Because I don't think it is fair for others to
Be working on the holidays IMHO!

What people choose to do on their own private property is their own business. What next, make it law to have Christmas trees? Just what we need; more government involvement! Are you going to go door to door, demanding people have a manger scene on their front lawn? Personally, I'm more afraid of this type of enforcement than I am of the PC crowd. Our ancestors faced lions and being burned at the stake for even mentioning the name "Jesus", and we freak because they're not playing Christmas carols over the sound system. Have we really become sooo whine-y? And we still have the freedom to worship anyway we see fit in this country. God bless America, land of the FREE!
Youre ACTUALLY defending the right to take land by force in the name of God??
Yeah, and MP was right....you are wrong!

love,

Sopranette

People get upset if decorations are up too early, then they get upset when they don't put them up. If anyone wants to dictate when and if they appear, start your own business just like the owners of these others did. Then you may do as you please.

I used to own a retail business, and I can tell you that you absolutely cannot please everyone.

I'm with Sopranette..thank God for freedom!

Hey, my kids are still young and enjoy it so why do you have to criticize it? I enjoyed doing so as a child. Sure it is kind of silly as one grows up, but not as silly as going bankrupt buying to all the commercialism of the "traditional" Christmas. Our kids still exchange gifts, but we do it after Christmas. The stuff that is bought before Christmas we donate. I want my kids to enjoy the giving part not the receiving and they do. They keep looking for new ways to donote, whether it is their time or a new toy, (my daughter who is 4- she wants all girls to have a princess costume apparently). This is what they have been taught and they do not feel as if they are missing out.

That is sweet! Your kids are growing up with a great attitude.

At my job, we are getting gifts for some people in nursing homes. I think that is a wonderful idea, as often our older citizens are forgotten, not just kids. I really enjoyed getting things for a little 88 year old man who has no family.

Just about everyone (IMO) has focused on the symptom rather than the cause of your complaint pastor.

Paint the hives with calamine lotion and forget them is the general consensus.

But there is an underlying cause.

However be of good cheer, we all know who will ultimately be glorified.

NKJ Philippians 2
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Ephesians 5
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

A blessed Christmas (Or Incarnation Day if you prefer) to all.

Exactly, Brother Hank! If they were to outlaw every last cross, picture, blinking light, and star, Jesus' holy name will continue to reign supreme in our lives and hearts, and for all eternity.
Merry Christmas to you, too.

love,

Sopranette

In the meantime, it's impressive that the Parish President replied to the ACLU director: [inappropriate language snipped]"

I don't think that is inappropriate when addressing the ACLU.

I contacted the Olive Garden about this and here is the reply:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding our position on holiday decorations.
Our restaurants may display the holiday spirit through decorations in a number of ways. You may see poinsettias, wreaths, garland and festive bows in many of our lobbies. In fact, many of our restaurants participate in the "Giving Tree Holiday Program" as a way to share our Italian generosity and a great way to represent the spirit of the season.
Because many of our guests celebrate the holidays in different ways, we do our best to ensure that our holiday decorations make everyone feel welcome.
Thank you for your interest in Olive Garden and we wish you, your family and friends all the best this holiday season.

Nice job 2Timothy.

I don't see anything wrong with that statement, or their reasoning.

If someone would like to send me a gift card from Olive Garden, I will be happy to go, dine, and find out what our local OG is doing this Christmas.. I would then report back....

And may I add, I can do this with Applebees too...

I won't even be as picky as Tim...send me McDonalds, Wendy's or Taco Bell and I'll do "field research", too! :)

Lol! I'll takle the anti-Christmas crowd at Red Lobster and Domino's. Hmm....we may not be able to convince the restaurants to put up Christmas decorations, but SOMEBODY has to find out if they are truely Christians or not.
note: it may take several trips, over the course of months or even years!
