A man arrested in Houston on suspicion of trying to burn down a mosque on Christmas Day told investigators he was a regular attendee of the mosque, praying there five times a day, seven days a week.
There was no formal response Wednesday from the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which had earlier expressed concern that the fire at the Savoy mosque may have been an anti-Muslim hate crime. CAIR says there has been an escalation of incidents of “Islamophobia” since the terrorist attacks in Paris last month and in San Bernardino, Calif. on December 2.
