Thanks - I was hyperbolically exaggerating somewhat and had more in mind the sort of Plymouth Brethren set up my wife was forced to endure whilst growing up rather than anything specifically American, where women weren't allowed to go on to further education because, 'quite clearly', God's Word said that was 'worldly knowledge', and were married off at 17-18 to churn out a new child every year like some kind of baby factory

There are positions between those extremes.

If you imagine every compatiblist a Plymouth Brethren, you have created a false enemy in you your imagination, and if you spend your life reacting to, and overreacting to, the way in which your wife was raised, you are actually still being controlled by them.

Is it wrong for a female to have a job - NO - but when she has children - her new family should be her full time job.

Sure some women say they can do both - but there is still only 24 hours in a day.

If by 'compatiblist' you mean 'complementarian' , then they're 'fundie-lite' for me, in much the same way as for many here 'socialist' is 'communist-lite', so no overreaction from me

I did in fact mean complementarian, and of course I already knew that was too radical an idea for you, being originated by the Designer Himself. Shake your fist at Him, not me.

Why so gender-specific though? I know couples at church where the wife earns more than the hubby so she goes out to work and he's the stay-at-home dad; works perfectly well. Or others eg: where both husband and wife are teachers, where they both work part-time and cover the child-care between them; that requires more juggling perhaps but still works for all concerned and has the bonus that kids get to see both parents equally (I remember growing up that we hardly ever saw my dad because he worked such long hours and, when he got home, he would eat his dinner and then be too tired to catch up with us

Only if you read the Bible through a patriarchal lens; it's man I'm shaking my fist at, not God...

Which part, "He created them male and female" is that what I misunderstand?

FYI, Watch your soy intake.
I agree that He created them male and female. I don't agree that that justifies a gender pay gap or that my daughter can't be a journalist, or that the subject of the OP can't be a cop.

And what on earth has soy got to do with it?

.
I guess there are, just as there are positions between being a 'strange fruit' loving member of the KKK and thinking that blacks are OK as long as they stay on their side of the railroad tracks

There is no gender pay gap, and no one said that your daughter can't be a journalist.

One must look at all of the factors regarding the "pay gap". Here is a brief video that might be helpful.

That's not a sincere reply.
