It sounds like the championship game was a good game. I just got home from work in time to see the last few minutes of it. UNC must have played well.

Illinois had no answer for Sean May and yet they still had 2 or 3 chances to take the lead with less than a minute go to. The looks that Luther Head had were pretty good, but it looked like he rushed those shots just enough for them to be off the mark.

Bruce Weber has really shown himself to be a terrific head coach. His teams have won 2 outright Big 10 titles in his first 2 seasons, after getting the players that Bill Self recruited to buy into his system. As the Illini made a run at an undefeated season, he handled the pressure superbly, better than almost anybody else I've seen. During the tournament, he made good adjustments in every game; got his team to come back after a rough 1st half against Carolina; and drew up good plays at the end to get the open looks for Luther Head.

If Weber is as good a recruiter as he is an in-game coach, Illinois will continue to make runs like this in the NCAA tournament for years to come.

BTW, I've always thought that Illinois got the better deal by having Bruce Weber be the coach instead of Bill Self.

Great job UNC! With Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, and a resurgent NC State in the NCAA tournament this year, the center of the college basketball universe is right where it has been for over 30 years--the state of North Carolina!

Even I found that game exciting. Like most women, I can only handle so much sports.

It was a great game! May was just too much for the Illini.

I wouldn't be so quick to say Weber is a better coach that Self. Let's remember that most of the guys Weber coached on this team were guys that Self brought in...the real test for Weber will be when his guys start coming in, can he keep this level of play up?

Well, at least Ihad the two Finalists right; just picked the wrong winner. NC got the big jump on Illini, and they nevercould catch up. It would have helped, however, if Illini could have hit a few shots down the stretch. Methinks, we haven't heart the last from either NC or Illini.
