The problem of legislating morality is ,it depends on whose morality.

Even where marijuana is legal, such as California, Illinois, Washington state, etc…., this doesn't mean it is safe to ingest.

Not long ago, in Illinois, where it is completely legal, some [what I call street marijuana] was sold and 38 people ended up in the hospital where 1 died. Why? It was laced with a type of rat poisoning. Certain rat poisonings are used in miniscule amounts for people to take to thin their blood after developing blood clots.

But ingesting this much caused the 38 people's blood to thin TOO much resulting in them bleeding from the nose, eyes, and ears. They had no clue that they were buying laced marijuana.

And that's in a state where marijuana is LEGAL. Legal does not make it safe.

Cigarettes can cause cancer. You can died from smoker's cancer. But it's on the package and people KNOW this like the back of their hand. The cigarette industry is too power and too rich to combat. People have to make a choice.

Marijuana, laced with PCP, rat poisoning, heroin, and more DON'T have warning labels. Even, you can see, in states where the substance is LEGAL! It's done to turn customers of weed into REPEAT customers.

I think you can take morality off the table. It's about safety.

The bulk of your argument lies in preparation of Marijuana. Obviously the reason many buy it off the streets is because very few process and package it. If it were legalized like alcohol and measures put in place to guarantee hygiene the problem would be solved.

I'm saying your fears would be addressed by regulating processors just as they do food. Talking of food, we have had instances of salmonella and solution was not to ban vegetable packaging or selling.

I wonder why Christians are not as vocal in their opposition to cigarettes as they are to abortion and other subjects. Do they deem it an acceptable evil? Or did some theologians smoke setting foundation for this passivity?

From what I have heard, Illinois has such a high tax on marijuana that black market sales are still preferred because it's cheaper to buy. I don't doubt the black market sales in Canada is doing robust business while the socialist Canadian government shows why big government is a failure.

Now those are valid counterarguments against legalizing it. But maybe the costs of keeping it illegal combined outweigh this.

BACKGROUND: The present paper describes the results of a rating study performed by a group of European Union (EU) drug experts using the multi-criteria decision analysis model for evaluating drug harms.

METHODS: Forty drug experts from throughout the EU scored 20 drugs on 16 harm criteria. The expert group also assessed criteria weights that would apply, on average, across the EU. Weighted averages of the scores provided a single, overall weighted harm score (range: 0-100) for each drug.

RESULTS: Alcohol, heroin and crack emerged as the most harmful drugs (overall weighted harm score 72, 55 and 50, respectively). The remaining drugs had an overall weighted harm score of 38 or less, making them much less harmful than alcohol. The overall weighted harm scores of the EU experts correlated well with those previously given by the UK panel.

CONCLUSION: The outcome of this study shows that the previous national rankings based on the relative harms of different drugs are endorsed throughout the EU. The results indicates that EU and national drug policy measures should focus on drugs with the highest overall harm, including alcohol and tobacco, whereas drugs such as cannabis and ecstasy should be given lower priority including a lower legal classification.

Whatever weights are assigned to harm scores alcohol and heroin emerge as the most harmful and significantly more harmful than marijuana or ecstasy.

Particular is right, the taxes on it are so high, there's still a huge black market - it's just so much cheaper than going to the store,

I don't do the weed but I don't think it's all that safe. Neither are any of those other drugs, legal or not. Not a good idea to overindulge in anything to excess, moderation, moderation. My neighbor grows his own for personal use, and that's okay to do here in small quantities.

One community we looked at was surrounded by a thriving Amish farm.

So when the happy community decides to go on a “field trip”, it takes on a whole new meaning.

All the money in the hemp. It's our future and family business. We grow only CBD strains. And sometimes we have problems with legality in some states.
