Looking at what some on the BB endorse and believe in, I was wondering who here believes the testimony of Mary K. Baxter.

Mary K. Baxter says she was praying and had a divine revelation and went to hell with Jesus and was told to write a book about this to save souls.

Here is a link about her journey:

http://www.spiritlessons.com/Mary_K_Baxter_A_Divine_Revelation_of_Hell.htm

Do you believe in this?

Would such a story be easier believed by those who hold to a non-cal theology, or those who are Reformed/DoG/Calvinistic?

If you believe it, or do not believe it, please state your theological stance as one of the above. Thanks.

The Revelation of God is closed. If I believed the possibility I would have to believe that all the appearances of the "Virgin Mary" were true. I would also have to subscribe to the belief of some groups that the Revelation of God is continuing today.

The Book of Hebrews tells us:

Hebrews 1:1, 2 KJV
1. God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2. Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

In the close of Book of Revelation we are told:

Revelation 22:18, 19 KJV
18. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Now I realize that this statement is specifically for the Book of revelation, but I am not sure that it is not applicable to all the Bible.

I really would hope that ones theology would have no impact on their belief of this story.

Finally I believe in the Biblical Doctrine of Sovereign Grace.

No.

Proverbs 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

In a case like this I am happy to be ignorant of her and her account and can say that I can happily reject her story without knowing anything else about it. I spent some time in the charismatic movement right after I got saved, and I now have a closed mind about such claims. I don't believe what I hear about her claim and am not interested in hearing her defend her story.

I have no reason to believe it. The bible is God's total revelation for us.

Not sure why one being cal or non/cal would have anything to do with it though.

Knowing a lot of fundamental Baptists KJVO types, who buy into Riplinger, numerology with the KJB, "proofs" of KJB the only true Bible espoused and propagated by said, among other things that are off the wall.

Knowing these are non-cal is why I've asked this in the way I did.

I know of no one in the reformed theology who believes in anything like this.

***By the way, the reason I brought this up is due to e-sword making an e-sword module of her book recently:

I heard her "testimony" on the radio more than 14 years ago. I skimmed through her book at a "Christian bookstore" thereafter.

She goes against Scripture at every juncture. She weaves a fictional tale as if it was the truth.

Many of the Charismatic persuasion would doubtless buy into her stuff. And,of course, most Charismatics are decidedly non-Calvinistic in their theology.

Agreed. I can't see ANY reformed Christian being deceived into believing this.

Well I'm not reformed but I didn't just fall off the turnip truck either.

There are some discerning non-Cals out there. :)

But really,Baxter is so far off the beam,no Christian Cal or non-Cal should fall for her stuff.

I don't trust any of those supposed trips to heaven or hell. They always sound bogus.

Several accounts of hell have been published and they all have certain similarities. It is enormous in size; there are different levels and kinds of punishment; there are foul odors. The first account I know of is The Inferno by Dante Alighieri. Another well known account was written in the 20th Century by a Polish nun named Faustina Kowalska. So far as I know Dante admits to having conceived of The Inferno by himself. The others all claim to have had a vision or an out of body experience of some kind. I don’t doubt their sincerity but I have to question their authenticity, and so I vote NO on Mary Baxter.

I believe God’s revelation to mankind is complete, but I do believe there have been and continue to be rare instances of private revelation. The visions of Joan of Arc may have been one of these instances. The vision of Constantine at the Milvian Bridge may have been another.

I finished live trapping 4 large possums that were living under the shed.

I asked my good neighbor if he wanted them for food and hats.

His name is Dave.

Will Dave keep that long bony possum tail on his hat? Just the thought makes me .
