    1. During this symbolic gesture of servanthood leadership, Jesus inserted a definitive statement, Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you." (John 13:10, emphasis added)

    2. Jesus moves from the physical to the spiritual, signifying that Judas was dirty in v.v.10, 11. But the others were already cleansed through the Word.

More like the Pharisee of Luke 18...

"Lord, I thank you that I am not like that vile person who depends only on your Word and your blood to carry him through. I do all kinds of good works as I know to be clothed in your righteousness alone is not enough to allow me to be a part of the Bride of Christ. Why, if given the chance, Lord, can I cast that vile person out of the kingdom myself?"

8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

Peter was clean, but Jesus said that if He didn't wash his feet, he would have no part with Him.

I get the feeling that you would cast me out if you had the chance.

    Mike,
The only reward that I look forward to is everlasting life with my Savior. This is the highest reward in my book and nothing else matters since it is promissed for believing in Him. Wealth doesn't matter and if wealth doesn't matter what may I ask could be more important than eternity with Jesus? There are other rewards but compared to Him they won't mean much. The reason I believe is because He is our wealth. Our treasure is Jesus Christ. This makes sense to me because our hearts is where our treasure is.
Luk 12:34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Christ is the only treasure I need

I see "no part with Me" as symbolicaly charged as well. But I'm not following your argument all the way. Maybe I'm missing something.

Symbolic of what? By the way I think He was speaking allegorical in that He was using something physical to teach something spiritual.

He was teaching "saved" individuals that they still get dirty "sin", and when they do they need to be washed by Him (High Priest). And if they won't allow Him to wash them they will have no part with Him.

And there's only one thing I know of that we can "have a part with Him" and that is His coming kingdom. So we can either have a part with and and that means we are going to have to let Him wash us periodically (sanctifiy us) or we can choose not to and we will miss having a part with Him.

Everlasting life is not a reward. Rewards are worked for and earned. Everlasting life is a gift not a reward.

And there are many that agree with you in that once they have wrapped up everlasting life they don't care about anything else. There was a lady in a SS class that we went too that anytime something came up and there was points of disagreement that would be her final answer . . . well it doesn't have anything to do with my eternal salvation so it doesn't matter.

Sad but true [IMG]. If God thought enough about it to tell us about it we ought to care enough about to it know what He's trying to tell us even if it doesn't have anyting to do with our "gift" of everlasting life.

    Luke 12:33-34
33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

When did this become the gospel of salvation by grace?

Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (John 6:28-29)

Apparently Jesus thought believing in Him was a work man could do... and an important one at that!

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)

Since Believing is a work, and for believing one is given eternal life, eternal life is indeed a reward as MB has stated.

By evidence of your own scripture, though I would love to debate this in another thread, but we will stick with your interpretation for a while. You highlighted the church. He said the church, not the bride. Another scripture?

Newsflash! Eve was part of the body, Rebecca was part of the body, the bride is part of the body. Scripture makes this very clear!

Question that needs a DIRECT answer from you, SFIC.......

Do you or have you ever used Adam or Isaac as a type of Christ in any way, shape, or form? Honestly.....

"That he might present it to himself a glorious church"
This is a reference to the marriage feast of the lamb.
The bride will be presented to Christ.
The context is marriage--man and wife.
The illustration being used is Christ and His bride--the church.
Someday that bride, the church, will be presented to him. Following that will be the marriage supper of the lamb.

Our gift is a reward for belief. If you don't believe you don't have the gift. This alone makes the gift a reward.

We all know what we desire the most. I try to do what God has called me to do yet still He is far better than any reward. Maybe you should look at what the 24 elders do in Heaven.
Rev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Crowns are rewards, my friend! I have no greater love for things than I have for my Savior. You're wrong about the gift of Salvation. You don't get it with out a commitment to believe, Repent, and worship Him.

The Bride is not part of the Body, it is the Body.

That's strange, because Eve was only a "part" of Adam's body.

You can't simply go and make things up to fit a theology. A gift is a gift and a reward is a reward. We don't "earn" everlasting life as you suggest, because if that was true then Eph. 2:8-9 is not true. So I'll go with Scripture that says we are saved by God's grace through faith "apart from works".

No works means no works. I don't know why so many people today have issues with that. It's pretty simple really.

    Amen!

Well you can say that until you are blue in the face, but until you can show me how "no works" really means "works" I'll continue to trust Scripture over man. No offense.
