Meditation on Hell

Have you thought much about how horrible it would be to die and go to hell?

Have we become so smug and complacent about our own salvation that we are rather insensitive to the plight of the unsaved?

There is no escape from hell. If a soul inhabits hell, there is never going to be a way out. They are stuck there forever.

We may not think about eternity very often. But compared to the tiny amount of time allotted to us in this life, eternity completely overwhelms it. As a person approaches the end of their life, it may seem like they only lived for a few minutes. The memories flash through them as mere puffs of smoke. This life loses its solidity.

In our lives in this world, problems can be solved.

But hell is a problem that has no solution.

To be damned and suffer eternally, separated from God and His love, with no relief, no hope, no change — this would be a total, unending nightmare.

For a person’s conscience to torment them for the vast number of sins they committed, for their self-centered life, for the unkind things they have said, for opportunities squandered, for evil thoughts they cherished in their minds, for never caring about God or the Bible — nothing could possibly be a worse fate.

Let us be more appreciative about how our Lord Jesus saved us from perpetual fires, non-stop misery, and unrelenting darkness.

Let us remember the agony, pain, and humiliation Jesus endured to provide for us a home in heaven with Him.

May fear of people going to hell motivate us to try harder to lead others to Christ.
