Melatonin

Funny you ask this. I couldn't sleep last night, I was very restless. So my wife suggested I take some of her melatonin. I did and fell asleep very fast and slept well all night.

It was used A LOT among my comrades that worked grave yard shift, they swore by it to help go into deep sleep during the day.

Your body produces melatonin when you are exposed to sunshine. Those who work nights (have done that on a regular basis) don't get much sunshine and it can cause sleeplessness.

Melatonin can be very helpful when used in moderation to restore normal sleep patterns. Don't take it unless you have about five hours or more to sleep, or you may be very groggy when it comes time to wake up.

A friend of mine uses it when she is getting stroppy from poor sleep. She was a night shift worker for years and had problems forever.

Melatonin tabs are helpful she finds, but are very expensive as they are not on the government subsidised list in NZ.

If she's got friends in the States, maybe they could send her some. Melatonin is like $7 U.S. at Walmart for 100.

Thank you, I will check this out as a mutual friend is going home to Kansas shortly to get married.....hope this is okay to bring through customs at our end......thank you very much!

I know your customs is strict. I would suggest reading the declaration carefully and declare it if there is anything close to a question about it.

Amen to that.....I would NOT be wanting any hassles due to a request!

I have found something in our health food store that I prefer to melatonin and is available without a prescription. You might have her try it first if she can find it.

It is a Valerian root tincture, mine is made by Biroforce.

On the label is A. Vogel
Dormeasean
Sleep

It is made of valerian and hops. You put 30 drops in water at bedtime. I have never had that groggy morning feeling with it.

Its worth a shot

Thank you for the heads up on the Valerian, I think she has tried this but I will pass on the information.....I think you get to the stage that if jumping up and down on one foot, holding 4 sprigs of thistles was a possible....there would be those who would try it .

After reading this I must get some melatonin. I may be guilty of a lot of things, but stroppy is something that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

I take it occaisonally when my insomnia gets to bad. My doctor told me to be careful with it because you can get dependent on it if you take it all the time.
It makes me extremely groggy though if I don't get enough sleep after taking it, so I don't usually take it if I have to drive in the morning.

When I have gone awhile without a good night's sleep I just take an over the counter sleep aid and it works great. I take one and I am out within a half hour and then I never wake up until the morning. When I wake up I feel rested and so much better.

I used to take it regularly and it helped a lot. 3mg was enough. There are other herbal formulas available if you're looking to try various sleep aids. It's an easy-to-find, over-the-counter supplement. The benefit to melatonin is that it's natural and non-addictive. It also doesn't interrupt the body's circadian rhythms. Overall a win-win! But it also has it's maximum effectiveness levels and once I reached a point where it could no longer help me, I had to use prescriptions. Shucks.

Yes, Melatonin works very well. Doctor prescribed it for my son a few years back because he fights his sleep and will stay up all night if you let him. I've tried it a few time, but be careful to not use more than needed, otherwise you will be groggy the next morning/day.

I'm not sure if Doctors are even still prescribing it, but Ambien can have some serious, and dangerous side effects.

I have never tried the Melatonin, but I might pick up some just to have around the house, in case I have problems, some night.
