you never know what some people think...uh not here on the BB though...I meant them out in the world somewhere...uh...ah nevermind!!
Cute! ;)

Jack, I know it is sometimes easy to make mistakes. Why one night, I told people in one thread that if a man loved his wife he would abuse her physically, verbally and emotionally. I left out the little word 'not.' That was spotted almost instantly and got a lot of laughs.

I don't know about 70 year old men in the USA, but sister Agnes the Augustinian nun who helped me with my first thesis* had 6 different translations of the Bible completely memorized.
Ofcourse there never was a sister Agnes knows the Bible by heart memory wonder roadshow, so I'm not surprised you never heard of her.

*It was (irony of ironies) about Origenes.

LOL. (However some Muslins would regard your unedited post as being more factual)

Regarding memorizing Scripture -- some I memorized along with my kids when I required them to! But I have found for the most part it is 'use it or lose it.' So while I can go directly to where it is when someone mentions it, I often find myself, in my rapidly approaching elderly years, unable to do the various parts by heart.

HOWEVER, I have also found that through defense of the Scripture and explanation of it here on BB and in Bible studies, that a lot of Scripture is simply 'stuck in my mind' as a result. Some areas I have referred to so often that they are definitely known by heart.

Some people memorize more easily than others, and I know I memorized much more easily when I was younger. But anyone who claims the name of Christ should have READ the Bible through, certainly, cover to cover, and hopefully more than once. That is the only way I know of to know when, for instance, a Mormon missionary or JW is mis-using Scripture. It is the only defense I know of against false doctrine.

And, as you read it, whether or not it is memorized, you WILL find yourself thinking about what you have read as you go through the day.
