How about a sermon with three points: the power of the Spirit, the power of the Word, the power of the Witness!

Since Paul asked for his books/parchments it may well be that they did have some tools of some type. II Tim. 4.13 The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring [with thee], and the books , [but] especially the parchments.

I just happened upon this thread while looking for something else, but personally, I have seen a couple of preachers that I wish had merely "read" verbatim, a fully prepared sermon, rather than "as they put it," 'just let the spirit take them where he wished,' and 'preached' around the world about three times with neither rhyme nor reason to their hour long diatribe, 'er I mean so-called 'message.'

None of these sermons (or preachers) came within a thousand miles of having the impact of "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" or Jonathan Edwards, IMO, for whatever that is worth.

And I have privately wondered exactly what spirit they were listening to, but personally suspect it might be one, such as the one Micaiah described in I Ki. 22: 19-23 c.f. II Chron. 18:18-22, as a "lying spirit" or an "evil spirit sent by the LORD" (I Sam. 16:23 - NAB), and allowed to 'distress the preacher', just as Saul was troubled, or even their own personal spirit, such as the one Paul was "bound in," (Ac. 20:22) when he was determined to go to Jerusalem, and even after the Holy Spirit twice warned him that he should not go up to Jerusalem (Ac. 21:4, 11), went anyway, for I certainly do not believe what they were presenting stacked up very well with the Scripture, which words are those of the Holy Spirit.

Several pages of notes that I use very rarely due to the fact God has filled me up to the point of overflowing!

Like the song, "I'm Drinking From The Saucer" because my cup's overflowed!:godisgood:

I do "chase rabbits" but I've always heard it's ok to chase them as long as you shoot them and bag'em and get on the right trail again!

I have found when I make the notes it helps me remember what the Lord wants me to say.
