Because of historical circumstances, there are not that many Republicans known to be former members of the KKK. However, David Duke (former Grand Wizard of the KKK and current neo-Nazi) has found more acceptance on the Republican side of the aisle than with Democrats. Yet. the Democrats I know accept the word of Republican national leadership that disavows Duke as not representing their values.

I don't see the double standard you claim.

David Duke is a red Herring.
He only won one election. It was in a unique district, to say the least. He was never accepted by The GOP or it's leaders. Byrd was a leader of the Democratic party on a national level and was fully embraced by the party. The Democrats gave Trump literal hell because he did not denounce Duke. Trump said he was not familiar enough with Duke to form an opinion on him. He later denounced him. I had the same opinion of Duke at the time the question was asked. I had no idea the man was alive or what he believed then. He could have been the NAACP chairman by then for all I knew. Trump thinks like I do. If someone asks you a question that seems to have an obvious answer, don't answer it until you research it. It's usually a trap. That's how he saw the Duke question.

For all I knew and for all Trump knew, he could have completely changed. As you point out with Byrd, people can change. Trump thought he was getting trapped into denouncing a changed person. It could have been a Johnny Lee Clary type situation. The interview you cite was 15 years old at time question was asked.

He was a white man who dyed his skin black and lived with black skin for several months.
The book is a chronicle of his experiences.

But to repeat an all important point, I generally do not refer to the commoner as a Dem or a Rep. Those terms are reserved for those with the power that goes with them. Voting a certain way does not count. However, those wishing to be numbered with the hypocrites are welcome, and at any rate cannot be stopped by such as I.

I cannot say none here conflate the two, only that I generally don't, because I think it unfair, as their mere voters likely don't bother to think much, thus fail to discern just how devious are those serpents they favor. The latter think like the devil, and speak his language fluently.

Given how little regard the Dems have for the Constitution and the basic rights it recognizes, they easily qualify as anti-America. The Progressive Left Dems are instead pro-USSA, that is, are hellbent on creating the Union of Socialist States of America, and may yet succeed.
