Mexico and Lopez Obrador (AMLO)

As you know, Mexico on Sunday elected communist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO0 as President for the next six years.

Cuban communist dissident Silvio Canto in Dallas commented on the election on Monday. He noted that the big problems of corruption and violence are blocking progress. AMLO himself is involved in the corruption and the violence is very widespread and often related to narcoterrorism.

The economy is hamstrung by an agricultural sector that is not very productive and many agricultural workers have migrated to the USA from deep inside Mexico. Another economic problem is the national oil industry, Pemex (Mexican Petroleum, roughly) in that it is used by politicians as a piggy bank and is not competitive.

AMLO compares himself to the great Mexican President Benito Juarez, who expelled the French during the 19th century. Perhaps a better comparison for AMLO would be to bandit Pancho Villa.

Mexico is a 3rd world country. The border should be barricaded and secured. Visas should be very limited and hard to get. Anyone that crosses illegally should be treated as an enemy , not an immigrant.

Thanks! Mexico should not be third world because they are so rich in natural rsources. But the corruption goes back for decades. Have rhey finished reforming their law so that a person is no longer guilty till proven innocent?

I linked Silvio Canto's video above. He lived and worked in Mexico so he follows it closely and from an anti-communist viewpoint.

AMLO won because they are anti-American. We have to build a wall because AMLO will send terrorists through Mexico to attack us.

but he also won in part that they tried it other ways with Fox, Calderon and Nieto, and everything just got worse. Now they just elected the cartel candidate.

Can't really get a good read on AMLO, he is full of bravado, exaggeration and machismo and my grasp of Spanish (things can really get distorted in translation from any language) isn't great, this could be the start of a Mexican dictatorship or not, he seems pretty reckless when he claims he's going to forego bodyguards to be "close to the people".

Trump and AMLO are getting along okay on twitter so far, "respect" seems to be the button to push on that one.

What do you think of Canto--I have been following him for 4 years? Linked his video at the end of the first post. I never liked AMLO. I guess that he does not assume power until December. Poor Mexico so far from God, so close to the United States.

I knew who Canto was, I usually see his articles here:

https://www.americanthinker.com/author/silvio_canto_jr/

and he's written on AMLO often - thinks he's more like Obama than Trump and I agree. But I had no idea the transition was five months, that's a long time to have Nieto out there.

AMLO doesn't seem to be much of a friend to the US but at least he's open about it, Trump has the upper hand. The next president of Mexico has promised to give amnesty to drug cartel kingpins, they will try to keep AMLO alive just for that. The impact of that on the US will not go unnoticed.

Silvio Canto also does a lot of work at Babalu Blog, which focuses more on Cuba. https://babalublog.com/

His home blog is http://cantotalk.blogspot.com/

As you well noted, he is often on American Thinker.

What do you need a wall for when you have technology that can be used immediately. Get the lazy arsed congress to change the laws to felony and stop this stupidity.

"Eliminated"??? Better not be by the NSA or the CIA, doing that would be interfering in a foreign election in spades.

this is MSN but just an article about the drop in the peso post-election:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/mar...-mexican-presidency-in-a-landslide/ar-AAztt41

the US is already constructing the wall, still messing with the courts and eminent domain in Texas. The wall would help greatly curb the drug smuggling but not so much on the illegals - you need to make overstaying a visa a crime or just stop handing them out like candy at Halloween.

oh, yes, the tunnels - Mexico must want them there:

http://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-ln-border-tunnels-20170113-story.html

so they're no help again - as you say, the surveillance available these days is pretty hi-tech, sure they're sensors that can detect a tunnel. That's the way that creep El Chapo did his business.

LHO killed JFK but the KGB probably helped. The KGB doesn't exist in the same form any more, but AMLO doesn't pose an immediate risk like Castro did in 1962, all he has done is talk tough while campaigning.
